Missing GPS data in Multisport Mode
-
Hi all,
New to the forum, but hoping someone can help. I have an Ambit 3 Peak, which I love. Really completed a Kayathlon race (Trail Run-Bike-Kayak-Bike-Trail Run-Bike) and had a specific multisport mode created in the watch to match the race format. Started and finished the race fine, changing sport modes at each transition, and saved the race log. After syncing with Movescount/SA I noticed that the two trail run sections were missing from the map. I couldn’t figure out why for a while, but I discovered in Movescount that the ‘Trail Run’ sport mode had GPS turned off for some reason (accidentally it must have been), while bike mode and kayak mode had it switched on, hence the gaps in the track map. Interestingly enough the overall distance logged was correct, and during the trail run sections, the watch was accurately telling me distance, even with GPS off. My two questions are as follows:
- How was the watch calculating distance even with GPS off?
- Is there any way i can retrieve the missing trail run data on a map, so I can have a complete overall map of the race route, as I want to create a Relive video of it. As I said, the overall distance is correct, and in Movescount, the trail run sections are showing up in the stats breakdown with distance, pace, altitude etc. but yet there is no map data. Surely somewhere in the .gpx file, there is coordinate data that can be retrieved?
Some screenshots from Movecount attached.
Thanks in advance.

@AndrewAmbit3 if I had to guess I would say that the watch estimated your pace with the accelerometer (like when you run on treadmill) during the trail runs.
If that’s the case, no gps recorded so (I guess) no possibility to get the full route… maybe you can manually edit the fit/gpx file? There must be some services that allow you to do that…
