      Hi Guys,

Just bought my Spartan Trainer Wrist HR recently. I went to test it out on a treadmill with the Treadmill Basic sports mode.
However, the tracking seems to be off. It get tracked properly during the 1st km with the correct pace, but after that it just goes off.
I ran for 5km in the treadmill with pace of 6mins, but my watch just get tracked I ran 1.85km with a pace of 35mins+.
Am I using the wrong exercise mode or did I missed out something here?
Anyone know how to get the watch to track it properly on a treadmill please?

@jiajge90 AFAIK each watch auto calibrates itself while recording moves with GPS (outside).
If you have no recorded then your results will vary.
My understanding only. Someone more knowledgeable can help us.

          @jiajge90 Two things.

The watch accelerometer based tracking would never be accurate on treadmill. If you want good tracking, I would recommend getting a footpod. Milestone pod (now Zwift) retails for about $30 and is fairly accurate after calibration. There are far more expensive but far more accurate and calibration-free options like Stryd. I use it both on treadmill and outdoors. But it’s kind of hard to recommend $200 foot pod to everyone…

Before going there, however, have you calibrated your watch with GPS?

Presumably, if you do a few runs outside, so the watch can get your stride length and all, it would get far more accurate on treadmill? Assuming you run flat and mostly at the same pace outside.

@Yannis-Belouris My first 2 runs with the watch was an outdoor run with a pace of 6mins as well (with GPS turned on). That activity get recorded and sync.
Due to the bad weather, I decided to try a run on a treadmill and was surprised the tracking get off so much…

Also make sure GPS is off (if you have created a custom sport mode of treadmill)

@NickK I see there. So with a footpod it will get better tracking. I thought the watch was like something like my phone accelerometer.
Before I having the watch I was using my phone with Nike apps to track on my run on both outdoor and treadmill. It tracked well for both scenario.
Yes, I did run a few outdoors with GPS turned on before I ran on the treadmill. Also, I did some hiking with a very slow pace as well. I am not sure will the hiking stride length affected the treadmill tracking.

I don’t know but my experience with Suunto 9 is that it records twice the distance that is showing on the treadmill. When I use Stryd, the distance is exactly the same as on the treadmill. And I am sure I am not doing any crazy movements with my hands 😄 But I also run very often on the hilly terrain outside so it could be the reason why the calibration is so off

@Dimitrios-Kanellopoulos My apology of being newbie here. Is this something we can turn it off on the watch? Let me figure it out.

@jiajge90 No apologies pal. It’s more of a bug that should get fixed asap.

@Zdeněk-Hruška too bad, it seems like Stryd is not available to purchase my country. Gosh

@jiajge90 Get Zwift Pod. It’s almost nearly as good. There are other foot pods available too. Honestly, I wouldn’t go for Stryd unless you need running power. Getting it as footpod only is an overkill.

@NickK Yeah, I agree. My comment was more about how Suunto watches are inaccurate regarding treadmill distance and pace than about advice to buy a Stryd 🙂

@Zdeněk-Hruška as I use both footpods, and had some irritating issues with the measurements of the Zwift Pod / Milestone Pod on the treadmill - according to the Zwift/Milestone support it is strongly recommended to use the Pod on the treadmill OR outdoor. The Pod otherwise won’t give you the right distances at all, as it needs to be calibrated for each use, obviously every time. (So it is as mentioned in this thread before 🙃)
And just as has been said, Stryd is a different matter, but the price is too high IMHO just to use it as a “simple” “distance-footpod”.

using a Suunto Vertical & Suunto Wings; mostly running (AKA stomping around) and cycling mostly through the northern german "wilderness"

@Zdeněk-Hruška I have the same issue. When running outside I run mostly hilly terrain so my treadmill distances are significantly off, usually at least 25% longer than actual. Suunto should provide manual calibration like some Garmin watches do.

@NickK so the Spartan Sport Wrist HR would be able to track distance on a treadmill without GPS? Do I manually somehow need to disable the GPS?

I found my last Vo2 max test run which I used a running mode without GPS, and it reported the distance as well
