Thanks!I think the problem is the Suunto threshold for ascent, is commented in some posts by @Dimitrios-Kanellopoulos. I’ve read that Suunto only records ascent if you do like 3 meters in less than 12 minutes (the minutes I am not so sure). With this threshold you avoid some wrong data that comes from like moving arms, jumps, etc. My guess is that this threshold is not helping you with this small uphills.
I’ve a SSU and I can tell you, with bigger uphills, that the altitude measurements are very consistent (repeating routes) and reliable (comparing with my bike baro-GPS from another brand)

that is correct. there is a threshold on 3m ascent so that can be the issue here

Thanks!Hahaha I have the same 'issue. but not because of small hills. Say on the weekends bike ride my climbing was 690 meters according to the 9 Baro, and on Strava after pressing elevation correction was just under a 1000 meters. Other riders had up to 1200 meters. Just for the record however I had a Fenix 5 and my other half has a Fenix 5 small. Her Fenix 5 is nothing like mine used to be, hers is as stingy as the 9 Baro. And if we have a bike ride with say 15 riders most using things like the Garmin Edge 1000 or similar, few Wahoos also the varience in altitude can be tremendous - like around 30%. It is not brand depended either, Garmin are the most common but some read high some really low (I say high and low as I have no idea what is correct)
My 2p worth is as long as my watch is consistent that is all that matters. And my experience of the altimeter on the Fenix 5 (and 3) was shocking. It would drift tremendously sometimes a few thousand meters sat on the sofa. The 9 Baro seems much more accurate, and if out walking and we come across a spot height invariably the 9 Baro is much closer to the actual height than the other half’s Garmin 5.

That explains a lot. I sometimes go to a park which is almost flat but not entirely (intervals going up, even if slightly, are harder…) and the watch reports absolute flatness while there are about 3m ascent / descent per km in the track I usually choose. Stryd however, reports it correctly through its barometric sensor…
I thought it was a firmware problem.

@Dimitrios-Kanellopoulos what about using the watch on endurance mode? I see in the guide:
FusedAltiTM provides an altitude reading that is a combination of GPS and barometric altitude. It minimizes the effect of temporary and offset errors in the final altitude reading.
NOTE: By default, altitude is measured with FusedAlti during exercises that use GPS and during navigation. When GPS is switched off, altitude is measured with the barometric sensor.With GPS switched off, does it mean using the clock in the endurance or ultra modes? or what does it mean?

@Martin-Häntzschel if you turn GPS off the fusedAlti technology will not run and you will get only the altimeter changes that barometric sensor reads.
That means that GPS will not be used to help the barometric sensor stay “sane” in cases that there is environmental pressure change.In short with no GPS enabled mode the barometric sensor might be affected by a storm for example.
However, on the S9 the endurance mode uses GPS , less frequently so it should still work.
