Ambit 3 Peak Suunto app - sports mode customisation
-
Has any of you found any info about the roadmap yet? Ok with me that I temporarily need cable sync with Movescount to get routes in my Ambit3, but it is already getting annoying. IF it will not be supported in Suunto app, I can throw my watch out, because I am using it for navigation all the time.
Also, getting new workouts on my watch only works with Movescount app, so I will need to install it on an old phone and switch my watch to it, as only solution?
-
@Marianne-van-der-Meulen As the SuuntoApp really only has a few support for Ambit3 watches, the only advice I can give you, stick with Movescount and wait for the next update of the SuuntoApp. When that is available see if there are more functions to suit your needs, if not stick with Movescount. Sadly the only advice to give now.

@jthomi ok, thx

is app seriously needs a lot of work in the next 18 months.
18 months? I will seriously think about others brands if ambit 3 still with this situation in June

@Dani-Moreno-0
june is soonā¦
I can use my Ambit 3 without any restrictions.
Of course I hope that I can use it like today for the next couple of years, tooā¦ but Iām optimistic -

Just with Movescount.
Suunto App is at the moment unusable. What is worse - that there is no progress (in terms of Ambit3 implement.) since cca 01/2019ā¦

@estevez
yes, that is true. And to be honest and summarize my opinion about todays status of SA in general: itās crap.
But I see some progress. For me it is more important that SA has a decent overview with sorting and comparing functions (total ascent, distance etc and weeks, months years comparison etc) AND a proper web interface. Before this is not developed and implemented I personally donāt need SA.If I was Suunto I would first develop an interface that is web based and displayed in an App frame that works properly with all required functionality and only then connect all wireless watches (with the option for the full setup of sport modes, settings and Ambit Apps of course ).
-
@estevez Yeah, āunusableā pretty much sums it up, I quit using it, and am fully back on Movescount (a mix of mobile/PC).
@TELE-HO I suggested a similar design, with a simple object-model, in-between the app/web layer, and the actual watches. This abstracts the whole mess, so they can have modules per-watch-family, however it works out. In fact, Iād bet they already have a LOT of this code, itās just not laid out as such.
I just donāt believe theyāre EVER going to bring basic features in, for the Ambit3, at this rate. If you look at the May/June āissue logsā, thereās exactly zero, nada, nothing, no issues for the Ambit family, so yeahā¦
This is roughly half of their syncs, per some report that was posted, around 01/19 (Ambit1, 2, 3 Iām pretty sure), a bit shy, but still thatās got to be a HUGE deal, if even 50% of that half just ābailā to another brand, because we canāt use the SA software, to even do something as simple as āinstall a new sportā, or āchange a personal HR zoneā, or āchange your physical specs - lost a few pounds, got older, etcā.
Unless this changes, resale is a lost-cause, too, unless you can find an āexact matchā for your sports, characteristics, etc, itās a āweird dealā, if you ask meā¦ -
@pgrey
only last Friday I ordered a brand new Ambit3 Peak Sapphire as I think it is a rocksolid watch and I expect Suunto to support either MC or implement all the necessary stuff they still sell the A3 with into SA. It will take some time until they do that. Of course I also expected more in the recent SA 4.2.3 update but their statement in May was that they listen and good old A1-A3 customers will be enjoying their products also in the future.
I think that making the companys recent flagship A3 obsolete only because they tried to build another flagship with the Spartan Ultra and failed, then developped S9 and had successā¦ doesnāt make sense. A3 is not that old and it is their workhorse. It was their money shitting donkey for a good bunch of years. If they drop A3 support they risk a lot of customers. If happy A3 users feel cheated they will most certainly look around for Suunto alternatives.
The A3 can do everything that an adventure athlete needs and it even has customizeable apps for the watch. S9 does not have that, please correct me if Iām wrong.So yes, today SA is not really helpful. But until they shutdown MC we can still stick with MC web and MC app. I check every now and then the SA for trials and of course with every update what has been changed and improved.
For me it is out of question if they support the A3 thru SA like they do today thru MC app/web. It is a clear must!
It would even be possible to support A1 and A2 without bluetooth if they would supply an adapter to connect thru the charger in the phone or a bluetooth connector cableā¦ -
RIP Ambit

Just choose another location and/or Ambit3 model (non-Saphire, with/without a HR belt).
And navigate through Suunto site, your own bookmarks and Google can land you to some discontinued product variants. I can still see plenty of in stock Ambits listed.
-
yep still available and at premium priceā¦ but this is off topic so moving on lol -
@lohtse
but it seems to start to be discontinuedā¦
I have my watch, so I donāt have to worryā¦ but itās sad that Suunto gives up their best watch ever -
@TELE-HO how do I post pics here? Had an interesting message from support
-
@TELE-HO I thought Ambit2 is the best: it has ANT+ and is capable to get pace AND power from Stryd the same time

doesnāt the Ambit 3 do that too?
-
@lohtse nope, this seems to be an issue with the BT connection or somewhere related to that. I have tis statement verified from Stryd directly:

Jul 18, 09:24 MDTHi Johann,
Great question and I apologize if our article is still not clear!
Most Ambit 3 watches can show Stryd power. The exception is Ambit Run 3 because is does not have the ability to pair with a power pod (note that Suunto does not distinguish between a bike or run power meter). No Ambit 3 watch can show Stryd power and also get pace/distance from Stryd (unless you have two Stryds)
<snip end>
So if you see power (connected as power pod, I assume), pace/cadence/distance is from GPS. And here the updated support page on behalf of my questions: https://support.stryd.com/hc/en-us/articles/360026388734-Do-the-Suunto-Ambit-2-and-Ambit-3-and-other-Suunto-watches-work-differently

@John-M
you can upload local stored or copy paste screenshots by this little āhard diskā sign with arrow upwardsā¦ -
@TELE-HO its only the set with heartbelt.
You can only see that because of the cache. If you come to the side, you can choose the watch only. noooooo R.I.P. (meanwhile) -
Hi,
I bought Ambit3 Peak this week and Iām little bit confused.
If functionality of my watch will be limited by new suunto app, can I return it in terms of guarantee (2 years from now)?
Regards,
Michal.
