@aiv4r it depends on what you call basic…not everyone uses a HRM or bike sensors and not all sensors have these issues, so therefore not everyone is affected by that. But to me this is still kind of basic to expect these devices to work if you by a sports watch and especially if those devices work perfectly fine with other manufacturers. But if months after reporting, these devices still not work, this is for me a no go and a reason to maybe look at competitors in the future again. Nothing is perfect and bugs happen but priority should be to fix them quickly

@brave_dave i get you, it is not ok when things do not work as expected. But my point was - if stuff does not work for you, it does not mean it is a mass problem. I can cherrypick a lot of people that has problems with Coros/Garmin. Not saying that Suunto is better, just saying we cannot take cherrypicked issues and define a brand based on that.

@aiv4r I don’t agree with you that it is cherry picking because it only happens for a few people. It is an observation bias if there are bugs that only happen in certain scenarios and not a lot of people use it in that way. Probably the bug also persist for other people but they don’t realize it because they don’t use it in that way.
That’s why usually developers do betas to cover a high variety of different scenarios to detect these rare bugs. The number of bugs and the time until they are resolved is the issue. When you look at the number of posts in this forum in relation to the sold devices, those issues probably happen to quite some people and already for a lot of months. It then makes some customers really mad if they see that after one year, a new Race 3 series is released and people realize that probably they have other priorities. -
@brave_dave maybe you are right or have more info than I have, I can only base my opinion on the people I know using Suunto and none of them have any issues like you have. Also if it is not fixed by Suunto for a long time, it is not as mass problem as you think. But it is pointless to discuss unless you have data on your statements.

@aiv4r when is a problem, a mass problem? 1 affected user, 100 or 100.000…? Where is the border that one could expect a fix and how long should one have to wait for a fix?
Good customer care and software engineering is when one tries to fix every bug as quickly as possible and also communicates about bug fix efforts to let people know that something is on their list and worked on.
I am affected by bluetooth issues with HRM and bike sensors for about 9 months now. I don’t really care because I use a Garmin bike computer as well. But this is not how it is supposed to be and I can understand other people’s frustration. Therefore, I can not understand this marginalization of other people’s problems to justify manufacturer’s failures. -
@brave_dave i see you still do not get what I am trying to say. Therefore I sign off from this discussion. Maybe it is my english maybe it is your unvilingless to understend different point of view. Not sure what kind of software development you are used to, but usually there is a huge backlog and a lot of prioritization involved, and it is mostly impossible to solve all bugs all the time.

this forum is full of people the battery duration went downhill, the Suunto HR Bluetooth sensor freely disconnects (I have myself), and it cannot reliably connect to bicycle sensors available in the market.
Ok, I get your point. I also think the software experience could be better. More stable.
In my books, Suunto could take a day or two to just fix all the translation oddities. This alone would make a much better experience…
But, given the BT issue is fixed, the random crashes as well, the Race S is perfectly priced, IMHO…

@2b2bff yes, if it connects to Bluetooth properly, it is leaps forward, the battery decline is not to die from.bluetooth disconnect is just a job stopper.
@aiv4r in this forum people wrote that Suunto support told them Bluetooth issues are not going to be solved “in short time”.
So the bug is there, it’s bothering a lot of people, they are basic sport watch qualities, and Suunto said they are not going to bother.

@brechtvb i am not saying it is not real. People should rechout to support, see what their options are, see if they can get a watch replaced. People here just trying to help, none of the people here are working in supporting users. There are few people who try to relay info to Suunto, but that is it.

Re the topic. I wonder if we can get Run 2 with actuals offline maps or it will stay budget option for road runners. I would like to see new FW with the maps. It is still not clear what the Suunto plans are for 2 FW versions are they gonna keep developing both and for how long. That is the big question in my book.Suunto Race 2 (Titanium Trail)

@aiv4r replacing watches are not going to solve Bluetooth issues that Suunto already declared to be of no priority to them.

@aiv4r the Run is Suunto’s attempt to broaden their road runner reception. So, it has to be cheap enough to consider instead of a Garmin and this will naturally limit the things it can do…

@brechtvb lol you get that it can be done in paralel? Not all watches has that problem. Focus on what you can control - dealing with supoport. You cannot control Suunto fixing/not-fixing bugs.

@2b2bff but it does quite a few things that the flagships don’t. I cannot imagine that is cost effective for Suunto and it is just plain confusing.
I would really like to see Suunto scrap the old OS and continue with just the Run platform instead as I believe that experience is a lesser user experience. Actually returned my V2 because the overall feeling of using it was so far behind the Run.

it may be related to hw compatibility…
maybe race 3/3s will unify that firmware with run2…just a wild guess.

@André-Faria that would make perfect sense, but I do not see enough improvement in Run FW yet, so it could replace Race series. But maybe smth is cooking, would be nice.

Maybe Run was a experiment with compatible hardware but cheap enough to sell cheap and so not much investment in firmware or even hardware that is not 100% compatible with race features (due to price gap).Maybe I am exagerating, but on Suunto story there was always a bit of “let’s make the best of this platform” and when they get to a limit (my guess!) they change…and yeah sometimes features are not "ported"or support becomes more focused on bug fixing than new features
Ambit to Spartan => if I recall correctly it missed some swim features
Spartan to 9 => great evolution feature wise and support wise
9 to 9 peak/race/vertical/race s , race 2,vertical 2?On all these switches, the watches that were launched later had the impression of being “less supported”, but the reality was that earlier watches on the same platform had meaninful updates (ex: 9 peak vs 9 baro).
Depending what happens soon the story may repeat. Let’s see
Honestly with garmin it is not much different, except that their watches have more features we kinda notice less. -
@André-Faria it has nothing to do with hardware compatibility, HR is read well, then connection drops, no more HR.
They are pure software issues.

To get back to the topic again, what about the new products they talk at the UTMB, is there new Race 3/3s in sight now…? Or some other product news?
