1 year Live.τ 🎉
-

Just noticed that today (
not really today but close) 1 year since first public release. For me it’s also a personal milestone, 1 year of support such a big project by one hand:
S+ app, backend, frontend, 2 mobile applications…It started as a small MVP to explore whether it was possible to share live location from a Suunto watch, since then it grew a bit!
Today it handle live tracking, advanced automation via platform like n8n zapier and make… live groups with push-to-talk communication inside. sensor forwarding, field notes… and other things that werent in original idea…
There was a lot of engineering challenges, fighting with maps, keeping infrastructure costs reasonable, battery consumption, appstore reviews… etc, etc… unfortunately there still a major issue with concurrent main suunto app access… sadly that’s not something I can solve on my side…
Still, I’m happy to be here and continue supporting the project.
Also today I’m releasing new 1.0.18 companion app and 1.8 R4 S+ app
(Google Play is still stuck in review, as usual)so… let’s move to the brief changelog:
- redesigned
- start translating an app, now it’s AI based it’s fine i guess for first iteration… but… if any volunteers to help me with localization please let me know!
- field notes - now you can attach text/picture/voice recording notes to you route.
- watch settings from the app - in the latest S+ and companion app version, settings gone from watch to mobile app, now you can disable/enable individual telemetry streams and customize bottom button action
- improved ux for live groups - now you can manage it directly in app
- added early preview nearby athlete discovery
- phone GPS fallback - sometimes watch gps could fail but phone location services not, and in this case the app can switch to the phone location until the watch recovers. - actually this feature is basement for next step, in the next version i want to try add guest accounts (users without suunto watch) allows to join live groups
an a lot of changes
Thanks to everyone who reported bugs, tested weird edge cases, and shared ideas over the last year!

and, forgot to say, also starting with 1.0.18, there is now an optional subscription if you’d like to support the project.
The audience has grown quite a bit recently, it’s great! but it also means more servers, traffic, storage etc… and eventually more bills.
If you find the app useful and would like to support development, this is now one way to do it! Just an option.

Greatly appreciate all of your efforts and will happily support further development!
