Third-party chest strap with ZoneSense on SuuntoPlus?
-
Has anyone tried using a third-party chest strap with ZoneSense on SuuntoPlus?
Does it work properly with brands other than Suunto, like Polar or Garmin HR straps?
I’m curious if ZoneSense requires specific Suunto sensors or if any accurate HR chest strap is fine. Thanks!

@Kraisun-Tunta io ho una polar h9 e zone sense con il mio race2 funziona perfettamente.
-
@Kraisun-Tunta I use a £25 Amazon one & it works with Zonesense fine
-
@Kraisun-Tunta I also use a cheap one from Amazon - it is more comfy than the Polar one to be honest - and it works fine with zonesense and has washed really well also.
-
@Kraisun-Tunta Do a quick search in the forum. This has been discussed many many times. Historically some work better than others, but if you want specifics a search would be best.
TLDR: Yes you can use another brand.

@Stavrogin Yeah mate, that’s literally why forums exist — people ask questions to get information from actual users, not to become archaeologists digging through 8-year-old threads
-
@Kraisun-Tunta maybe this is the case on Reddit. But in a Forum you actually search before asking…

So far I’ve used only H10 and no problems whatsoever for me. Works fine with ZoneSense.

Funny how people complain about “wasting forum space” while adding another useless reply themselves

@Highlands big thank

I have been using Polar H10 since around 1-year or more with Vertical 1.
ZoneSense works very well.
-
@kraisun-tunta for me actually the Polar H10 doesn’t works well at all with race 2 there are drops and other issue, surprisingly the garmin works very well.
-
Wahoo Trackr HRM works very well also.
-
Polar H10 + Race 1, works well for me

@Kraisun-Tunta while contradicting I like your reply somehow

Indeed it might be faster to ask rather than dig in so much data that we have here atm.
-
@Kraisun-Tunta I wasn’t coming at you only trying to communicate that there is a ton of n of 1 information in a search here due to the fact different people have had different experiences. After spending a bit of time here you will find that the experiences with people vary quite widely. Not sure why, but somethings have worked really well for me while for others not so well. The good news is people here help each other troubleshoot and help make things work.
I get it though. I offended you. I wasn’t trying to…

@Stavrogin I understand, and I’m sorry too for sounding a bit sarcastic earlier.
I actually did search before asking. I was mainly looking for more recent experiences or newer strap models that people are using successfully now.
I just wanted to avoid buying another one that works fine at first, then starts losing HR data after during runs -
@Kraisun-Tunta To your point my journey with HR monitors has been all over the place, but since the new updates have come through my H10 and Garmin HRM Pro Plus work great. Good luck and if it does drop out, drain battery when not in use, or just do weird things, check back. That is where this community has been the most helpful

@Stavrogin I was using a Garmin HRM Pro, the fluro yellow bumper version, and could not get it to work properly. That said it did not play ball with a Wahoo Rival watch either.
On the Suunto I could pair the strap but it would sometimes get stuck and recordings were useless. I did find that with the most recent firmware I could change the recording channels to just heartrate gave better results, but still could not get a reading from ZoneSense.
Likewise on the Rival it just did not report any heartrate, yet on an Elemnt bike computer it worked fine. Most probably this was down to the HRM being more than just a heart rate strap and the mixture of channels just makes it confusing for devices that just need a bpm reading

I use the Polar H10 with my 9PP and Vertical for zonesense. While the analysis in the Suunto app after syncing the activity is equal with both watches, the live data is much more stable on the 9PP. On the Vertical there is a fluctuation between anaerob and Vo2max zones and then a quick fall back to the green aerobic zone.
Therefore I use zonesense only on the 9PP to have a stable analysis of the actual zone.
