@Egika said in Suunto Software update Q1 (2.53.42):

when set to miles, the full details are shown up to 0.2mi, which translates to some 330m or so.

0.2 mi = 322 m, which is unfortunate because that means 36% worse radius of visibility at the zoom level with maximum details. That is still quite a penalty for US users.

Here is an old picture of Garmin Fenix 7X which shows a scale of 800 ft for the quarter of screen, which in Suunto case would translate to 1600 ft scale (for half of the screen):
      PXL_20220813_222541496-EDIT.jpg

1600 ft translates to about 500 m, which would fairly closely match the existing zoom level in the metric system.

      In metric system zoom levels are 25m, 50m, 100m, 200m, 500m, 1km
      But in imperial - 100 ft (30m), 200 ft (61m), 500ft (152m), 0.2mi (322m), 0.5mi (804m)

As you can see, Garmin doesn’t stick to round numbers and that has never been an issue. I don’t think anyone ever complained about that.

Suunto: Ambit, Ambit 3 Peak, 9 Baro, Race S, Race Ti
Garmin: Forerunner 210, Forerunner 610, Fenix 6X, Fenix 7X Ti

Yes, I have to agree that the numbers are completely indiscernible

When zooming in (on the watch) to a 25 metres view there is a fighting chance to discern them in the “Light” “Map style”. But since the colour used for the numbers is a light brown, it still is a struggle. For my eyes only pure black would meet the visibility criteria. Perhaps with that colour I’d even be able to decode the numbers at a 50 metres zoom…

I’d also appreciate a list of all POI types with switches to enable what I want to display on the map

Yeah! In the small village where I live there seems to be more than 50 (quick sloppy count) public litter bins/trash cans and not much else to contemplate 😊 I know visitors to Sweden consider it a tidy and clean environment, but I’d also like to turn off this slightly embarrassing and view-cluttering fact. Coupled with the public parking space labels this overload almost completely obscures the sign for our Healthcare Centre/Clinic.

From the statement regarding version 1, can we understand that it will now receive updates (improvements) instead of upgrades due to hardware limitations?

@kriskus both, the display is different from the others so it needs ad-hoc development just for one model, and then there are memory/processing limitations (not the storage, the internal memory) that are similar between R1 and V1

@Vitaly-B. that is the storage, we are talking about the internal memory to store the firmware and do the processing

@Inge-Nallsson as explained by Pavel, this first version is more focused on providing details in areas where there aren’t many, and it is quite crowded in urban environments. I can imagine that in a future update we will have the ability to select the POIs we want to see.

@safari As a Vertical 1 owner, I’d rather NOT get the new software upgrade if it’s going to be “squeezed in”, i.e. keep my Vertical stable and reliable as it is now.

It’s come a long way compared to when it launched. I would’ve been really frustrated if it didn’t have multiple sensor support or HRV tracking, but since it does, I’m very happy with it.

@danyel I, in part, agree. I’m pretty sure Suunto will be able to overcome the limitations or issues they are facing and will deliver something for the SV1 without limiting the user experience.

For me the question are: When this update will come? This will be Q1 update or Q2?

@isazi Of course. I’ve read the new maps thread and understand the juggling necessary. This comment of mine was more of a light-hearted thumbs up for some selection mechanism since, obviously, there are some litter bin obsessive OSM editors in my area - and they’ve still missed a bunch in the outlying areas of the village…

I tried out the new firmware this morning on my bike ride to work, with auto-zoom enabled and the map set to 200 and 100 meter views, but I didn’t notice any zooming.

The route was created in the app; the turns were displayed correctly, as were the notifications.

Is this feature only available for certain activities, or is it just not working properly?

By the way, the update is impressive in terms of the number of changes, but hopefully Suunto will remain simple and user-friendly in the future—the opposite of G…n 🙂

Thank you to the team for listening to user feedback…

How does the recovery HR feature get started? Did weight training yesterday, with the function activated, but nothing got triggered🤔

I’ve now watched the video. It only briefly explains the background of HRR, but not how I actually use it in practice on my “Race” watch.

I’ve done a test using the running sport mode, where I enabled “Recovery HR” under the exercise options, but I can’t see anything—neither during nor after the training.

@Rayfox the test measures how fast your HR drops after being high, and it is disabled if when you press “End” you are already in Z1, because the rate does not mean much if your HR is already (relatively) low. If you end the activity in Z2 or higher, you can see the HRR in the summary (just scroll down) and then also in the app.
