@Yuurei haha probably depends on place in the world and algo 🙂 but very well may be, just wanted to make a point to the statement saying that Garmin do not use influencers, which is clearly not true.

        Hi,

great to have the opportunity here:

        • using the watch as a sensor for other devices (especially when doing indoor tracking)
        • seeing the battery of the watch somehow, somewhere during an activity
        • starting navigation from the middle point of a route (when I did it I just got “off track”)
        • ability to import activities from .fit files
        • easier access to detailed data from everyday life (aka NOT activities)

          Hi,

great to have the opportunity here:

All of what you list ist already there. Have you asked in the forum first?

          • using the watch as a sensor for other devices (especially when doing indoor tracking)

          coming with update

          • seeing the battery of the watch somehow, somewhere during an activity

depending on the watch model, just press and hold the lower button -> voila
Or you can easily add the battery percentage in your custom sport mode. There’s also battery run time available as a data field.

          • starting navigation from the middle point of a route (when I did it I just got “off track”)

just start moving in one direction of the route. It will get your position after a short time.

          • ability to import activities from .fit files

you can do this using Quantifiedself or Runalyze to upload fit files into your Suunto account.

          • easier access to detailed data from everyday life (aka NOT activities)

not sure what “easier” means in specific. I go into the calendar tab, select a specific day and have more information than I need…

@Egika thanks a lot! Very insightful!

just start moving in one direction of the route. It will get your position after a short time.

As I mentioned, my experience was unfortunately that it didn’t get me starting half way at all but just showed “off route” until the end.

you can do this using Quantifiedself or Runalyze to upload fit files into your Suunto account.

I’m aware, but this is as you show exactly not a feature of Suunto itself, and I find it weird and abbit annoying that I need to go through a third party.

not sure what “easier” means in specific. I go into the calendar tab, select a specific day and have more information than I need…

maybe “access” was the wrong term; I want to export the actual data and not just see the info. I don’t see the option to export the data I see in the daily view you mentioned (and it would be a bit of a hussle to do this for all days by hand instead of me specifying a time frame and getting all data at once. With “easier”, I mean that to my knowledge it is currently only possible to get your data via a request to Suunto where you need to mention EU law and that they are required to give you the data (thoguh this is based on a Reddit post and not my personal experience).

@apparentlypeer Just go the App settings, then to the account settings and choose “export my data”.

@soisan thanks!! Wasn’t aware and I just read elsewhere that this was a hassle; my mistake!

Disable the touchscreen - it’s unbearable, all the settings change in the shower or during heavy rain. I wonder if the engineers even test their tools.

I don’t remember a single case of anything like that with a Garmin watch. I wonder why people think that Suunto watches are buggy. This may be one of the reasons. People may not connect being in a shower with this happening.

I do. The shower accidentally turned off the alarm on my garmin forerunner 965. Twice!! And you are right, it took some time for me to realize it was the shower.

On my suunto race s, I can configure that raise to wake only shows the time but does not enable the touchscreen. For me, it’s brilliant. Most of the times I don’t need to know additional info of complications.

Yes, suunto has it’s bugs and annoyances but for me, not nearly as many as my previous garmin.

An other thing you are right about is that suunto is missing basic configuration options, like disabling touch, or only touch in maps. (And there are dozens more, like setting alarms for certain days, or have vibrating alerts in watchmode and beeps and vibrating in sport mode) Unfortunately, suunto is more working on useless features, like track mode (and I train weekly on a track at my athletics club) but they have to. For marketing purposes they have to match the feature list of garmin. And people who look for a watch think things like trackmode is more useful than disabling the touchscreen. They just look at feature quantity.

Today, while cycling, I briefly left my watch attached to my bike. The heart rate monitor disconnected. There should be an option to reconnect the sensor. This wasn’t possible, and I had to end the workout without a heart rate monitor.
