Ocean or Nautic S?
-
Hi everyone,
Recently I had the opportunity to buy the Nautic S at a very good price.
Unfortunately I missed that opportunity and now it’s back almost to full price (€520), so its appeal has faded a bit.
Now I’m unsure whether to go for the Ocean, which I can currently find on offer at €480.What’s holding me back from buying the Ocean is the feeling that it may not be supported much by Suunto going forward, especially when it comes to software update.
What I need is a dive watch/computer for recreational open-circuit diving. I wouldn’t use it much, since I’m mainly a CCR diver.
I’m not interested in other sports or tracking features—outside the water I just need time and phone notifications. In my position, what would you do?
Ocean without overthinking it, or pay more for the Nautic S?Thanks

Depends: are you buying only for diving or for other activities also?
I was reluctant on using any smart watches, but Ocean is growing on me and I find using more and more features outside diving and wearing it 24/7. They opened SuuntoPlus app developement so even more features are coming.

@NorthStarFY26 personally I think, that Ocean is one of the best looking watches, Suunto has ever made

If you buy it for the features it has today, you won’t be disappointed by the slow update cycle Ocean has.
I can confirm, that it is actively developed. It is just always behind the update schedule of the other sport watches. -
@NorthStarFY26 I am coming to this from another angle. I do tons of sports outside the water, but my consistent issue has been that the “normal” sports and adventure watches by Suunto and others couldn’t do anything when I went free diving, snorkeling or doing the little scuba I occasinally do.
You guys seem to think this is a mainly diving watch, so it’s probably pretty good at what it does as recreational divers’ instrument. I think of it as an all-rounder. It’s the most complete sports watch I have seen at the price, does pretty much everything and I would NOT change to any other watch in the market right now.
When it gets replaced by Ocean 2 in three years (I suspect), I might consider changing. Until then, I truly enjoy this from the mountain tops to the crystalline waters of Greek islands. If there are updates to the watch, I take them gladly. I am happy as is.
