GPX Import into SA - How To Guide (Android)
-
@stromdiddily bam! lets take that out! Great stuff pal!
-
How did you manage to open the file with the Suunto App on Android? If I click it in Google Drive it opens an editor and shows me the XML format. If I download it to my phone and try to open it, it gives me the choice to open it with a bunch of apps, but not the Suunto App

Hmmm looks like Google Drive converts the file to XML format whereas OneDrive leaves it in original GPX format. I’m not super familiar with Google Drive but if you can force it back into GPX file type, it should work.
On your mobile, if you click on the file I attached above does it download and open SA (it won’t show you the route because the file itself is bad but it should still open Suunto App)? If this works, you might be able to email yourself the file and download to your device from your mail client…

@surfboomerang
Do you have drive app installed?
I’ve just tried to upload the gpx to drive, and opening it via drive app and it seems to work -
YAY!! \o/
Follow the instructions but instead of using any cloud storage I just sent the GPX file as an attachment on email.
Open the email on the phone;
Save file it to a folder;
Use File Explorer to get to the file, and when click on it, Android just ask the app to open it, and Suunto was on the list. -
I just tried another (maybe faster) way.
- Opened MC site on mobile (using browser desktop mode)
- Saved the route locally
- Double click on downloaded file
That’s it

Yes, got the Drive app installed.
It seems that it opens the gpx file in an internal viewer/editor in the Drive App. If I choose Open With, it opens a HTML viewer instead of the Suunto app.The e-mail trick doesn’t work unfortunately. Same issue as when I download the file and try to open it
-
NOTICE:
Use a file explorer that recognizes apps to open with. Some natives dont offer for any.
I use Gaia GPX , SA and only some file explorers such as solid file explorer, ES explorer, Fies go do work

Try with instructions from my last post.
It could be an issue with gpx file association.
Do you have any other “navigation” app (not waze or gmap) installed ? -
So some file explores and the native ones do not recognize apps to open with .gpx files.
We are adding a button to help and over come that -
@sartoric use solid explorer. Download the file and then use that app for example.
-
BTW that is the only reason why we did not expose this yet. As some file browsers do not offer
-
@Dimitrios-Kanellopoulos
I’m using default samsung explorer and it works like a charm -
@sartoric ok that is great to hear sorry for the confusion
-
I tried solid explorer.
I got a list of all my app on my phone to open the file with, except… the Suunto AppI will try to reinstall the app and see if that fixes something.
-
@surfboomerang scroll if you are on .51 should be there but if not next is coming up asap.
-
I am on v 3.51.00.
Unfortunately after a reinstall of the app, still the same issue. I think I’ll just wait until the next update -
@surfboomerang can you try es file expoler
-
@Dimitrios-Kanellopoulos
I use ES explorer, and I can choose almost all my apps to try to open à file, except SA.
-
When I see a good activity in Strava (usually for bike) I:
- add /export_gpx to Strava url
- Download GPX
- Open with Solid Explorer
- Import route in SA
