Race 2: Please decouple alert vibration from UI haptics + more sound profiles (Run comparison)
-
Device / SW: Suunto Race 2, software 2.48.16
Phone/App: Android (latest), Suunto app (latest)Context (important):
I own both Suunto Race 2 and Suunto Run. I use the Race 2 as my dedicated trailrunning/training watch (maps, sharp display, readability are amazing), and the Run as my daily watch (smaller, lighter). In practice, the Run currently feels more configurable regarding alerts/haptics.- Core issue: Alerts vs UI haptics are not separable on Race 2
I want: vibration-only alerts (countdown end, autolap, refuel, storm warnings, etc.) without any vibration on UI interactions (scrolling, button presses).
On the Race 2, vibration seems global: if I enable vibration, I also get vibration feedback on UI interactions, which is annoying and likely wastes battery. If I disable vibration and tones to avoid beeps, I may miss important alerts because they become optical-only.Steps to reproduce (Race 2):
Set Tones = Buttons off (to avoid button beeps).
Enable Vibration (to get haptic alerts).
Start an activity and scroll through data screens → the watch vibrates on UI interactions (unwanted).
If I set Tones = All off to fully avoid beeps → alerts become effectively silent (no vibration), so I only get optical cues and may miss them.
Expected: Separate toggles like:
UI haptics (buttons/crown/scroll): on/off
Sport alerts haptics (autolap/refuel/interval/countdown): on/off
Safety alerts haptics (storm): on/off
…and ideally the ability to choose vibration-only for alerts while UI haptics are off.- Sound profiles: current beep is too intrusive
Even with “Buttons off”, I still get a rather irritating beep for key events (countdown end, start, etc.).
Request: more acoustic options (short beep / subtle double beep / volume level / pattern selection), or per-event sound control.- Why this matters specifically for trailrunning (and why vibration is critical)
Race 2 has great features like route/elevation guidance (e.g., reminders for upcoming climbs). On trails, I often can’t or don’t want to watch the display constantly. Without vibration, these reminders are easy to miss (currently it’s basically luck that I notice them when tones/vibration are off). A configurable vibration-only alert system would make the Race 2 the ultimate trailrunning watch for me.
- Comparison point (Suunto Run)
On the Suunto Run, alert/haptic settings feel more flexible (I can get vibration-only alerts without constant UI vibration). I’d love to see the Race 2 gain this configurability too.
Thank you — the Race 2 is already excellent (maps, sharp display, data readability). These “small” settings would massively improve real-world usability.

@tobiasbecker850 I fully agree

Agreed as well, is this something that we could see as a feature request in a future update?
When launching a new acitivity there is already a menu for “exercise options” where you can change acitivity only display, battery mode, intensity, …
Could we get an option in that menu to activate/deactivate the haptics?
That way we could keep the global options as off on vibration but activate it only for specific activities (interval runs, for example vs a long run when we wouldn’t need it).
Thanks for the great work and improvements already made to Suunto!

Glad I found a post that highlighted this. I fully agree. I’m not a big fan of the UI vibrations on button presses and scrolling — I’d much rather keep haptics reserved for things that actually matter: alerts, notifications, and training cues like autolap or interval countdowns. Hopefully this level of granularity can be added in a future firmware update.
