@strain I think you would have to disconnect the partner service with Strava - then remove them from the Suunto App if still there… but once you reconnect to Strava I suspect any new routes would show up?

@larrybbaker I’ve already disconnected Strava and tried to delete it. It just comes back.

If you are taking about the app (SA), the routes are persistent, but do go away (eventually). I cannot provide any good algorithm for doing this, but I managed to remove some old routes after several trials.
If I recall, in Strava, make the routes not favorites, then in SA, switch them to “not to load to watch”, and then try removing them. A good idea is to have some time to pass between steps.

@MdzOtt I’ve had this problem before and I follow the same process as you to delete routes. I’ve also had routes created in SA that I couldn’t remove from the watch. These are routes that I don’t want to remove from the app. My process then is to create a duplicate of the route, then delete the original from SA. That solves the problem of Zombie routes that cannot be removed from the watch.

I realize the latter is not the OP’s specific issue, however it points to some issues with SA and route management. Now I totally avoid using Strava for route creation and just use SA or the web route planner.

I used Strava routes briefly, but after experiencing similar issues, I quickly stopped using them.

Strava is generally a very uninteresting service these days, but that’s a whole other topic.

@maszop at the risk of hijacking this thread, I’m hoping to stop my subscription to Strava now that the Suunto route planner is available. I think it’s at the ‘good enough’ stage, but also realize it could be better.

Strava doesn’t offer me anything outside of the route planner with its heatmaps, and now Suunto is offering a decent alternative.

@DrSilverthorn I have been using Komoot or simply SuuntoApp on tablet for this for a long time, and now there is also the Suunto route planner.

My main problem with creating routes on SA is that by default you need to do it on the phone. However, if you have an Android tablet or you run an Android emulator on Windows, suddenly SA is a decent option. I used Android on Windows on a laptop.

Another option is to run an iOS Suunto app on MacBook - this way I have a full screen route editor on laptop. But I still prefer Strava route editor because heatmap data is better and because I can overlay Strava segments. And by the way, Strava route editor does support on-route waypoints.
