Since the update and change in how devices are connected to my Vertical I cannot see the option to turn off auto-calibrate, which enabled distance to come from Stryd.

Also when I paired Stryd the battery was drained in a day - am guessing because it was bluetoothed to the watch and cannot be turned off like a HR monitor. I gave up using the Stryd. However Vertical gave me 5-6km more distance in two recent 100 mile ultras so I want to go back to Stryd distance.

Will the option to turn off auto calibrate be re-enabled?

@loopylou72 this is a community of users, a few field testers, here and there a few devs. You should contact support if you want to contact Suunto directly.

@loopylou72 My assumption is that auto-calibration is off by default. I have not done enough testing to confirm this, but my runs between firmware version appear similar. Previously it was connected as a generic footpod device so the option was there. Now it is connected as a specific stryd device so why would it have the option to auto calibrate, that would be counter to the design of the stryd footpod. Why would the software developers have it default to on. I’ve seen some post here that suspect it is still on though based on empirical results. It would be great to get a clear answer from Suunto or Stryd.

@fritzbt2013 The Stryd pod is connected as both footpod and a power pod upon pairing, with auto-calibration option off and speed/distance coming to the watch from Stryd every time it is connected.

This is the behavior I consistently observed on recent firmware post big Bluetooth change. You can pick a course which distance you know and confirm that. Or use Strava/Runalyze distance correction from GPS. Alternatively, you can run the same course twice, once with Stryd paired and another without. I did all that as well as compared it to other devices, including Suunto’s own pre-Bluetooth change. Distance definitely comes from Stryd, period.

For people like myself, for whom Stryd distance isn’t quite right (mine comes about 2% short) this means I have to choose between training with power (that is, Stryd power that works indoors and has been the same across all devices for the past 8 years I’ve been using it) and getting correct pace and distance outdoors. Coupled with ghost Bluetooth devices you can’t delete, occasional beeping and battery drain, yeah… The picture isn’t pretty.
