Honestly, I see a lot of people freaking out about battery life… but trust me, you’ll only care about it for one week. After that? Zero thoughts given. You’ll be too busy checking your pace, cursing hills, and pretending you’re not dying to worry about whether your watch has 37% or 82%.

And let’s be real: a week-plus of battery is more than enough. Charging a watch is like brushing your teeth—takes a minute, doesn’t ruin your life, and arguably prevents bigger problems.

So yeah, don’t stress. You’ll forget about battery life faster than you forget your warm-up.

@gone-troppo said in Software Update 2.48.16 (2025 November Rain release):

Does anyone actually know what suunto has done to address the battery drain other than saying it’s fixed? Mine hasn’t changed one bit still draining approx 1% every 2 hours best case scenario.

I see it has been mentioned to let the battery drain and recharge before making final judgement I will do this however I’m 99.9% sure this does not make a single difference as I have already done that many times with no change. Why would it all of a sudden make this watch start working as it should? Doesn’t seem logical to me.

Suunto has done changes in the firmware. In the version before, the watches did not under all circumstances disconnect BT sensors properly. With 2.48.16 some cases for this have been fixed and thus, the BT connection should not draw excess energy.

i have sync with phone turned off, no activities recorder, just standing there, preparing food and watch buzzes like crazy - few times in a row

@mich-heller soft reset solve the issue for me, I guess until I redo a training session with a BT sensors attached maybe, but for now they are gone

@Kraisun-Tunta I’m learning that making your own conclusions on what users care about doesn’t bring great products. If users say they care about battery life, most probably it’s something to consider. For me it’s the most important thing for my electronic devices. You may see it differently, but that’s why different products or features target different user groups.

I have to report that for the first time ever, my 9PP went from 58% battery Wednesday at 10:30pm to 9% battery Thursday at 06:45am… an almost 50% drop just overnight. Installed 2.48.16 the day before. Of course, I immediately downgraded to 2.44.52.
You know guys, I feel Suunto is showing me the door out of the brand by burning the bridge ahead of us with the disappointment the Vertical 2 is, and by buring the bridge behind me by making these strange updates. Just my 2cts.

@ChrisA My Vertical 1 suffers from battery drain, it’s NOT during activities. I 'm waiting a full battery cycle to confirm if the drain is fixed by this update (but I am not optimistic for the moment).

@fv4500 Once Apple cranks their watches battery life up to a week, I’m gone. And so many more. The biggest pro for me would be music streaming, navigation and ability to make my own AW apps. Yeah, it’ll be a hard time for all the smaller brands. Everything what we are here for is battery life. If Suunto cannot deliver that, there is no point in their proposition.

I am not here for battery life. My watches last for more than a week without me counting percentage steps.
I am here for a sports dedicated light weight watch that has style and a great training ecosystem. Plus navigation during the big and small adventures in the outdoors 🙂

@Egika There is Sports Tracker already. So switching to AW will be a no-brainer once the time comes. And so many more apps, it’s an open platform. The truth is, Suunto needs to prioritize code quality over everything else. The app telling me I need over 200 hours recovery time is not great training ecosystem (reported by dozens, goes unfixed for weeks). The app telling me I slept 4 hours and have 20% resources over while I myself am feeling snappy and 9/10 is not great training ecosystem. Etc. etc. It’s bearable to live with, not more than that. Just a reality check.

@Egika same here! I tried all major brand and Suunto suits my needs best. Besides one Suunto Race, which had a defective HR Sensor out of the box I never had major issues in the last 5 years. I can fully understand that it’s annoying if a working device starts to have issues due to an update like @Stefan-Kersting has with its Vertical though! That should not happen and fixed asap.

@Francesco-Pagano Haha fair point! I guess we’re all powered by different things — you by battery life, me by pure denial and hope that my watch survives the run.

But honestly, I’ve got watches from every major brand — G, P, C, and A, all the flagship models — and in real life, the battery difference isn’t as dramatic as people imagine. After a week, they all feel pretty much the same… kind of like cousins arguing over who’s taller by 1 cm. 😄

That’s why it’s great we have different products for different user groups. Some people want 30-day battery; I just want one that doesn’t die before I do.

Too bad the optical sensor ability was not improved with this update…I feel as though my Race has devolved in terms of its abiltiy to precisely track HR…I know it won’t be accurate but it used to be consistent.

Is the Race 2 noticeably better in this regard? Are there other HR watches that are actually better?

I understand a chest strap would be better and it is not an option.

Since the last update, I haven’t noticed any difference in battery life on the Vertical 1. It’s no better, but no worse.

Without any activity, I still lose 6-7% per 24 hours, which is obviously not in line with Suunto’s specifications, which claim ‘30 days’.

During activities, however, it seems pretty good, around 1/2% per hour without sunlight in performance mode but with a heart rate belt. So I still find it hard to believe the 65-hour battery life.

It would be good if Suunto provided the settings used to achieve these values in its specifications, in the interests of transparency with customers. Instead, we get: ‘Up to 65 hours… Up to 30 days’.

By closing the Suunto app in the background and disabling the watch’s discover mode in the settings, I see that I improve battery consumption by 1/2% per day. I still need to recalibrate the battery, but I admit that I’m not very confident about it, having already done so a few months ago and seen no change.

For me, the big problem I see with these battery issues is a lack of reliability and credibility that I can give to the watch. Indeed, during an ultra trail, if I set off and think to myself, ‘But I don’t know whether or not my watch will last the whole way!’, it could add a kind of psychological pressure that you don’t need at the start of a 100-mile race.

PS: I really like my Suunto though. On the TDS this summer, I ran for 32 hours with the Race in performance mode, in always-on mode, and I still had 30% battery left at the finish line. These are amazing watches!

@HonzaS if you expect to get bettery life savings out of a background on a sleep report its like what we say here in greece -> Squeezing the fat out of a fly to eat.

😁 I’m satisfied with the battery life. The V2 lasts incredibly long, but it just seems unnecessary to me that the black background is gray when it’s utterly pointless. If there were a colored background with some graphics, then OK, but why make the data unnecessarily less contrasty?

@Stefan-Kersting Haha true! You’re out there surviving a full week in the mountains, while I’m just doing flat runs in the park four days a week and hoping my watch doesn’t judge me for being slower than a turtle.

A week-long hiking trip definitely makes battery life a serious matter - you probably need a powerbank just to keep everything alive out there.

Meanwhile, my “adventures” usually end at the supermarket near my house.
