Answer / decline call

Hi, my watch cannot answer or decline calls. I don’t want to make a call trough the watch, but I want to at least silent my phone when it’s ringing from my watch. I have a Pixel 6 with default phone app. My father in law has the same problem on android phone, it’s a deal breaker for him and he considers that he will get rid of the watch because of this. Are there some options how to make it work? For example to change the dialer app etc?
