Power Saving
-
I’m trying to extend my Run battery and considering the “Power Savimg” (not GPS mode) but what it actually turning off? How less frequent is Hr readings? Does this affects other metrics especially for sleeping? Is it worth activating it?
Below is only thing I found in manual so far:
“Your watch includes a power saving option that turns off all vibration and reduces display brightness and the frequency of daily HR measurement to extend battery life during normal daily use” -
@Jervin-Reyes I read somewhere that it only takes heart rate measurements every five minutes or so, unless I am completely misremembering things. Don’t see how this drastically impacts recovery score. Haven’t tried sleeping with the mode on but I’ll try and report back tomorrow 🫡 What I can say though is that I once had it activated outdoors in sunny conditions and it was impossible to navigate to find where to turn it off due to how much it lowers brightness. Really don’t recommend it outside and would love to see a quick toggle for it through buttons or set a schedule.

Afaik there’s no daily HR -> no sleep -> no HRV, no raise to wake, touch stays enabled.
BT stays operational so you can use SA and any device during an activity. OHR remains operational during an activity. Is it worth activating it?
It depends on whether sleep, daily HR and HRV matter to you

@GratefulDeadpan Thanks for checking and looking forward your experiment result. But yeah planning to use it during sleep. Im also mostly working from home hence maybe turn it on as well. Theres no body battery or something utilizing the HR outside sleep and workout, so maybe worth turning on.
But I wish Suunto could elaborate what that Power saving do instead of us figuring and testing out what it do and does not do

@Hari-Seldon it does in fact track all of that, despite being in Battery Saver mode. Tracked my sleep, HR and HRV with it on.
Considering the Run doesn’t support Resources, like its older siblings, there is no daily HRV readings being made (if that is at all how Suunto calculates Resources). So far, all Battery Saver seems to be doing is lowering a bunch of stuff like HR frequency (seems to be every 10 minutes), vibrations and screen brightness.

@GratefulDeadpan I’m sorry! I remember that when I bought the watch, I forgot to turn off the power saving feature, so the daily heart rate was completely missing. It’s strange because 10 minutes is the default heart rate sampling interval. I’m quite confused now, so I’ll double-check and let you know. Unless something has changed in the meantime or my memory is faulty

@GratefulDeadpan thanks man for testing this out. Seems like Ok to activate during sleep to extend some battery life out of our Runs and even on days as there no Resource or whatever will utilize it.

This morning, as soon as I woke up, I synced the watch and activated PS. After a couple of hours, I disabled it and synced again:
So, unless I’ve missed something, there was no HR activity during those two hours, and that’s the behavior I expect from PS. I’m not saying you’re wrong, of course, so it’s best to ask @herlas why there are two different results.
