Tip - Suuntos magic red rubber band prevents loosing your watch

Re: Which strap do you use for safe diving?
Maybe already a well known trick, but if there are more people (with less wisdom) like me, I hope you find this tip useful.
I got my Ocean yesterday (great thing) and also ordered an extra wrist band from Suunto store. At the top of the box I found this red rubber band which I did not know what to do with. Almost trowed it away. After reading the tread “Which strap do you use for safe diving” I started to think on how to use it. Probably this is all planned by Suunto but it sure wasn’t explained anywhere what I could see.
When you secure the watch with this red rubber band the pulse measurement and other things work as normal as you lay it around the watch, but yet the Ocean is pretty safe from being lost at sea. I tried it out on both two wrist bands (the one that was included with the Ocean and the extra from store), both worked well as you can see from the pictures below.

@RobertF Fascinating observation, this is interesting… the question is, are those metal retainer parts stainless steel?

@photogaff Yes the end ”clips” may be made of stainless steel. It’s a bit hard to tell without exposing it to salt water.
I’ve only showered with it (sweet water) and no rust yet.A DIY solution would be to get a longer elastic hair tie (or some other textile covered rubber string) and cut it to suitable length and make a suitable sized knot in each end. That would probably also do the job
