    Error recording activity over 15 days

      Hello,

      I’m writing to report an issue I’m experiencing with the synchronization of an activity. It’s a special activity, but I would like to know whether this is normal or not. Here’s the problem:

      I’ve been sailing for 15 consecutive days and completed a transatlantic crossing by sailboat. During those 15 days, I was recording the route, both to have the track and to keep records of speeds and averages.

      The issue appeared when I arrived and stopped the recording. The activity doesn’t upload to the phone, and when I go to the activity logbook on the watch, it crashes and restarts. Now that I have this error, I can’t sync anything, and I can’t connect the watch to the phone.

      In the first photo, five seconds after seeing this, the data disappears and the watch crashes.
      In the second photo, when I click on Retry, nothing happens; as a result, I can’t configure the watch.

        @Angusmil Congratulations! What phone and OS are you using? What settings did you use on the watch to record? Tour mode? Don’t reset the watch, hopefully someone can help here.
        @pavel.samokha Anything that can be done about this?

          Hi,

          Thanks for the response. Today, after three days, the data finally uploaded to the phone and synchronized. I can now access the watch settings again on my phone, and it’s no longer stuck trying to sync unsuccessfully. However, some issues still persist: when I go to the activity from the phone, I can’t see the track with video, clicking play results in an error. Also, when I try to access the activity data from the logbook on the watch, it crashes and restarts.

          I’m using a Xiaomi Android device. The activity is “sail,” and I had set the GPS to maximum quality for a few days and then switched to Ultra mode, I believe.

          In any case, I’m glad I can now use the watch with my phone properly. Fortunately, the Suunto Ocean watch can cross oceans! It would be great to be able to see the track video.

            I guess that the data you recorded could be too large to be properly handled, likely at Suunto they didn’t take into account the possibility to record an activity lasting that long(!). Don’t know if changing the GPS accuracy could be part of the problem.
            For your next adventure maybe better to split the crossing into shorter activities, you could merge the related GPX files in a second moment.

              Hi,

              Yes, I guess it’s not designed for that, but I just wanted to report this issue and maybe even if it’s not intended for that use, it should still work, I don’t know how it’s programmed. It would also be nice to have an activity type called “offshore sail” or something similar, allowing the full recording of a sailing trip.

              Regarding merging GPX files, can it be done from the Suunto app?

                @Stefano-M64 @Angusmil Suunto does take into account long activities. This might be one of the longer ones. Recording on Ultra or Tour reduces the data density and helps with the longer events. When syncing a lot of data a high quality WiFi connection is often needed. Poor cellular connections don’t permit the data to sync.

                  not to my knowledge, but there are many third party tools that can edit, merge, split gpx files, for example https://gpx.studio
