I’ve been using the Suunto Race S for six months, and I’ve encountered an issue with the strap pin. My watch has fallen twice because the push-pin hole doesn’t hold up under the pressure caused by wrist movement.
As you can see in the attached picture, the pin hole’s plastic is already worn out, and the strap pin now fits loosely inside the hole. This makes the strap insecure, and I’m concerned about losing the watch.
Has anyone else experienced this problem? How did you resolve it?

@shai-cristallo Please don’t take this as an accusation, because I am asking in earnest; are you using any other than a Suunto manufactured watch strap? Standard spring bars, separate or strapmounted, Quick switch (with the ‘handle’) or normal Push pins (with a ‘lip’), they all come with an outermost tip of 0.9 millimetre. That is the Standard, whether you buy in a physical shop or on the web. Certain watch manufacturers, like Suunto or Garmin, use other tip diameters. Sometimes because the weight of the watch requires it, at other times to protect their own strap sales…

Suunto Race S has ‘horn’ holes to accommodate a bar with 1.1 mm tips. Since the lower portion of the watch is made of a kind of plastic, the uneven friction from a standard 0.9 mm tip has a high degree of probability to make the holes oval or grind other grooves.

If I remember correctly, my Coros Pace 2 had metallic inserts to protect the tip holes. But with Suunto I had to order 1.1 mm tip diameter spring bars from France, which I wrote about in the below posting:

            “(show your) custom watch straps?”

If you’ve only used Suunto made straps, then obviously there has been some manufacturing defect with the watch, or the strap simply had a wrong tip diameter.

@Inge-Nallsson hi Inge, thanks for your help. I only use an original textile strap bought on the website of suunto compatible with the watch. It seems to me that the plastic is not strong enough and a stronger wrist movement can release the pin from the holes.

@shai-cristallo I also never had or saw such issue. I’m using my SRs daily since last July, using several original straps that I change several times a week. I also would reach support.

Hi, did you checked that the spring bars work properly? that is, that their moving pin goes all way out after having pulled and released the “trigger”? If the bars accumulate dirt they may not work as they should.

@shai-cristallo did you check if the band or the watch isn’t subject to forces applied by the back of your hand (or wrist movement at all), e.g. when doing push-ups or grabbing weights/ handlebars - anything where you lower arm muscle contract etc.? It looks like you wear it very close to your wrist ankle. I cannot wear it that close during training, because it would be too near and interfere with movement.
