ZoneSense not enabled with structured workouts.
-
Hi all,
I recently bought a Suunto Race S, my first Suunto product. I have enabled ZoneSense as per the instructions and when doing normal runs all works as expected, I had to enable it once the first time and after that it has been enabled by default when starting a new run.
However, this does not seem to work for me when doing structured workouts. When doing structured workouts (created on intervals.icu), I have to manually enable it in SuuntoPlus before every run. I am following a training plan, and the structured workout is a new Guide every time, however it is still a Running activity.
Is this expected behavior of the watch or am I possibly doing something wrong?
Many thanks in advance.

@Fernando-Picasso I’m using TrainAsOne and face the same issue. I’m asked whether I wanna start the Guide for the current day and this seems to remove any other SuuntoPkus Apps that might be attached to the activity. So I have to select ZoneSense additionally every time.

@2b2bff Thank you very much for replying. I suspected something like this, but wanted to rule out a user mistake. I was also in contact with Suunto Support regarding the issue, and they suggested me to send the watch for repair. I wanted to avoid this, as they probably cannot do much there other than state that it requires a firmware fix. I will just keep my fingers crossed that they will provide a fix in an upcoming update.
Thanks again and kind regards.

@Fernando-Picasso ZS will be remembered if no structured workout. I believe this is by design. Mine works similarly.

@Fernando-Picasso To expand on Brad’s comment, structured workouts are a type of suuntoPlus app. Because of this, when you start a structured workout all the previously remembered SuuntoPlus app setup you might have will be replaced with the structured workout. This looks to me to be by design. This is the case regardless of which apps and whether you have 1 or 2 setup.
Remember, however, that the ZS data is still recorded by the watch even when the ZS app isn’t enabled so you can still see the ZS graph in the app after your run.
As an additional tip, you can add the ZS app after you’ve started your workout if you forgot to enable it by long-holding the lower button to get to the settings and selecting it from the available apps. It will take the normal 10mins from the point you enable it before you start seeing data but it works fine.
As a second tip, if you have a SuuntoPlus app setup you always use for races I suggest setting a second Run sports profile and configuring it how you want for the race. That way the app setup won’t need setting up each race
I do this as I have a slightly different screen setup and a few other differences as well and it works well for me. Less to remember on race day

@Brad_Olwin I believe I started a topic about this somewhen. There are two kinds of SuuntoPlus apps: Sport-Apps and Guides. As the workout is a Guide, it should only replace another guide as you say yes. Not a Sport-App.
-
@2b2bff As far as the watch memory is concerned they are equivalent, you can only have 2 running at a time. I can ask about this and will get back to you but I think expected behavior.
-
@Brad_Olwin other option is to just build ZoneSense in with no need of an SuuntoPlus app. As Suunto keeps talking about it as the best thing since sliced bread they probably should follow this route…

Been asking for this! I want ZS available in the outer ring of the watch! This would satisfy my needs and no S+ as I need other fields while racing. I hope this comes!
-
@Brad_Olwin That would be really cool. And consistent with the other intensity targets.
-
Dear all, thank you very much for the feedback and tips! I was not aware of these limitations, and it makes much more sense now. I will definitely keep my fingers crossed that they would implement ZS as a “native” feature in a future update.
-
@2b2bff I strongly suspect it will become native functionality once it matures. While it is still new and being tweaked and adjusted and improved upon the fastest approach is an app because it’s not coupled to the firmware test and release cycle.
-
New software seems to have fixed this. ZoneSense has stayed enabled although I selected today’s TAO workout…
-
@2b2bff Yes, I noticed this today as well, it works as expected now.
