Hi, I’m a new diver who just got OWD license.
I want to purchase my first computer and consider an Ocean or D5. I wear an Apple Watch during the day for work, health monitoring, running, swimming, etc… I understand that the Ocean can track health and activities but it’s too big for me to wear it all day long. I was considering to wear it primarily for diving but also hiking. So my question is can I sync it easily on iOS health app and is it going to be a problem to send both data of Apple Watch and Suunto watch on the same health app?

@ActuelVirtuel Your best bet is to use the RunGap app and it will sync Suunto activities to Apple Health much better than the Suunto App. I use this and it works great. You can also sync your Apple activities to Suunto if you use the SportsTracker app by Suunto, which is getting a major overhaul. In fact, you can use the native Apple workout app and sync to SportsTracker. SportsTracker will then have exercises in the Suunto App as well. HR, Steps, Calories and HRV are tracked in the SportsTracker app. PM me if you need more details.

RunGap app look good but I don’t want to subscribe.

@ActuelVirtuel RunGap is cheap $5 US for a year. Suunto app does not sync enough data to Apple Health.

@thanasis Well, it went up. Or it may be more expensive in Europe. I cannot see the price as I subscribed some time ago. They are very responsive if you have issues. Still not a lot of euros for an entire year.

@ActuelVirtuel I used to use an Apple Watch 7 but switched to the Ocean for health and workouts. it is light so I don’t notice it. I also track my sleep now with it. I find the exercise metrics more useful and use the zones much more than I used to. The data does synchronise to the Apple Health and Activity apps but I prefer to use the Suunto app now.

@jack_pokoj sounds good. If it’s not too big on me I might stop using Apple Watch.

@thanasis I was thinking to wear it only during diving, exercises and sleep for HRV. I was also considering the D5 and keep my Apple Watch but do you think D5 worth it in 2025? I heard about software error issues and instability.

@ActuelVirtuel The Ocean is much newer and more versatile. Will get updates for a while. D5 has no sports other than diving.

@Brad_Olwin I don’t mind to get the D5 as long as the current firmware is stable. I’m not sure if previous system error have been fixed.

I cannot answer that as I do not have one.

@ActuelVirtuel I’m not sure from this what version of Apple Watch you have. I have an Ultra and had an Ocean that I sold because of the frustrations.

As an OWD building experience, an Ultra with the Oceanic app will serve you well and may align better with your experience. By and large you will also get better data out of the AWU and the app ecosystem gives you better options.

HRV has been mentioned here. Have a look at the Athlytic app which does a great job of giving Whoop like reporting to Apple Watch users - especicially when you turn on AFIB tracking for a shorter HRV sampling interval.
