Software update 2.39.20 (2024 Q4)

@daveathletic That’s interesting. Changing the start of the week day didn’t work for me.

Here are my results from a first trail run regarding the new GNSS software and the “improved outdoor distance accuracy” comparing my Vertical to a Garmin 955.
The GNSS trace “wiggle” is gone! I could always pick out the Suunto trace compared to others because it had a little jiggle to it. Maybe it was that slight zig-zaggy nature that often gave Suuntos a slightly longer activity distance compared to others. The trace now almost looks like one from an Apple Watch (but not that overly smoothed). Previously, I would say that the traces from the 955 looked the best, smoothness-wise. Now, it seems that the Vertical and 955 have swapped, where the 955 has a little jiggle now. (Garmin also released a Q4 update, which my 955 is running.)
Here are a couple snapshots of today’s run. Notice the 955 now has a slight wiggle compared to the Vertical:
And, for the first time ever, the Vertical registered a shorter GNSS distance than the 955. But, as per usual, the 955 seemed to add quite a bit of correction and gave a measured activity distance that was shorter than that from the Vertical. This has been my observation, though, for quite some time. However, the difference between the two devices’ activity distances was much closer than usual. On previous firmware, most trail runs would have the Vertical +1-1.5% longer than the 955. You can see the difference on this one was only 0.3%.
So that’s, of course, just one activity, but things look very promising. I’m impressed and a little surprised that Suunto has been working so hard on its GNSS game.

@duffman19 I had the same problems yesterday too but it was already happening before the firmware upgrade to my watch. Must’ve been something up with Suunto’s cloud because it’s fixed now.
-
@jussim Thanks. Yep, it’s working for me now as well.

Still the same bug (S9PP):
-
Today my Race S did not track sleep. In the app I have HR chart through the night, but no sleep tracking. I updated the watch to the latest firmware yesterday. Did anyone experience similar issue?
-
Hi,
I lost some preferences during this update, my default watch face and it re enable all app notification, maybe others, do you known which one ?
Moreover after the update map widget still asked for compass calibration.
One minor thing about the chosen moment, watch woke up at around 2:30 am illuminating the bedroom, asking to apply the update
But the strange thing is that watch wifi was off and my phone was on airplane mode. So what s the algorithm for this delay between network/bluetooth connexion and applying updte, and if possible avoid night time to ask for the update.Anyway, thank you for this update

@dulko79 I updated my S9PP yesterday and I had no sleep tracked last night. The OHR was off when I took it off my wrist this morning. Both settings were on, though.
OHR turned back on after soft reset. Also, I had an alarm set at 06:00 and it rang at 06:30
-
@Francesco-Pagano My alarm went off as scheduled. Only sleep tracking was missing. HR chart in app/watch was there. Later I noticed resources chart was empty. After restarting the watch resources chart started filling in.

Many thanks for the new update, it’s like a Xmas present!
I know that it is impossible to please everyone, however I have to say that I really don’t like the new pressure complication, the old one, which showed also the barometric trend with the two segments arrow, was way better, bringing more info. It was present since the oldest Suunto watch models and it was somehow “iconic” to me
-
@Александр-Даниленко same for me !
-
Tiny thing I noticed this morning is it now shows the number of POIs and Routes when going into navigation pre activity, which is nice. Also if it does save navigation behaviour as posted earlier very happy with that.

wait, until the watch has gathered enough data and the indicator will be shown.
The history is reset with every firmware update -
thank you
It’s interesting that Tinjan appeared in the name of the update package, does this mean that Suunto is now a completely Chinese company?

nice color combination!

All Suunto’s have city names as development project names. There have also been animals for some.
They go up in alphabetical order.
Here’s a list since city A: -
Thank you for clarification!

So far I am not seeing improvements with the battery consumption.
I had 84% after the FW update yesterday around noon, and I woke up with 76% today (also OHR was off and the watch didn’t track sleep); it went down to 67% after my run this morning, which I find excessive. On a similar activity (with similar settings) two weeks ago I lost 4 pp not 9. Now after five hours I’m down to 64% so another 3 pp loss with the watch doing almost nothing apart from showing a few notifications.
All I changed is the watch face to the Christmas Tree one, which has no complications if not the one showing the calendar date.

@Egika Thanks, I must have read this some time ago but I forgot. I’ll follow what Q1 says for the battery and see what happens.
As for Q2, both sleep tracking and 24/7 wrist HR had remained on after the update, nonetheless they weren’t working.I’m happy with this new update otherwise, just sharing some feedback around one of the main known issues which is the increased battery consumption.
