Flight mode not working?

Hi all,
I tried using the flight mode to avoid my watch connecting to the phone all the time and thus discharging the battery faster.

However, despite flight mode being enabled, the watch still establishes a bluetooth connection with my phone and syncs its data.

Am I getting the flight mode wrong or is it a bug?
