Suunto Ocean for non divers
-
I am not a diver but I spend a lot of time around water. Is the Ocean worh it for non divers? I am trying to decide between the Coean and the Vertical.
Thanks.

@NJ-Runner the two main questions for yourself are, do you want an amoled screen (if so, Ocean is for you) and are you Ok without/waiting for the latest updates (if no go Vertical). As a sports watch the Vertical has the latest and greatest of everything Suunto, we must wait for the Ocean due to its diving specifications making it more difficult to update. The other thing and purely aesthetic, the Ocean is a fine-looking watch!
-
Absolutely. I got it and love it, no regrets.
-
@NJ-Runner, if you are not a diver, ocean doesn’t make sense. Go for vertical or race.
Have in mind that Suunto sells much more non-dive watches than dive-watches, thus non-dive watches will always have a better support.
-
@diogao13 I agree, I have the vertical, my wife has the race. Neither of us are affraid to get it wet (shower, swimming or the occasional soappy bath while washing the dishes)… Neither device has let us down. And I can only give praise to my vertical… and my wife so far has only praised her race. We are two very happy consumers.

@SvenSchroeter @diogao13 I have to disagree but understand your viewpoints. The vertical and race do get better support and are great watches, we can see that already in the Oceans’s infancy. In my opinion the Ocean is capable of being Suunto’s flagship watch, it contains all the base elements to compete with the Fenix 8 and AWU. It is also (in my opinion again) the best-looking sports watch on the market right now, very important for something you wear every day. My hope is Suunto’s development team can keep up with the Race and Vertical updates within a reasonable timeframe. I am not a diver, but avid runner and cyclist and love the Ocean.

Ocean is way heavier than Vertical Ti or Race Ti!
-
@suuntastic by a few grams, and the dive band is mostly responsible for that (not the case itself), the ocean is actually slimmer than the vertical.
-
@StuieD firmware update in Q4 should bring to Ocean all the current features of the other watches
-
@StuieD I do like the look of the OCEAN ALOT! It could very well turn out to be the flagship model with a lighter weight version coming latre. Would love to see it turn out that way personally.

from a rational point of view it makes no sense to buy the Ocean if you are not a diver, since it costs about twice than the Race, which is it’s closer competitor (not the Vertical) between the Suunto models. Dimensions are similar, the amoled screen is the same, as all the non-dive features, in addition the Race has the digital crown, that I appreciate a lot, which is missing in the Ocean.

after 1.5 year i can say Suunto Vertical its a rugged BEAST and best option if you are not a scuba diver or doing recreational spearfing.
in my opinion its the best watch out there, the main pros is powerfull battery, its almost have the double energy and matrix screen (im not a fun of amoled) the solar charge its an extra power option in that money price.
and last the rugged design of SV i think its more goodlooking and “sporty - adventure” than "elegance " OCEAN
BOTH OF THEM great tools …great design!! -
@isazi sounds fantastic!
