Let’s talk about the Ocean
-
I was saving money for a long time for another diver computer when I saw the ad for the Suunto Ocean. Instantly I was hooked. The product look georgeous, the GPS, the compass, heart rate detection, transmitter, …even a 3D map of my dive, the product had it all. The perfect industry game changer. So I took my hard earn money and bought one.
The but…
This is all on paper, because at my first dive I realized many flaws. First the compas (which was not the best compass ever, which is odd from a compass manufacturer), was lacking from the watch. The diving view was hardly customizable dans everything that could not find place in the main screen was sent to the “trash bin” as I like to call it: water temperature, air consumption (even without transmitter), etc, dozens of info point hidden away. From the two “arches” one was useless (if you don’t have a transmitter) and the other one was harldy useful. My dive logs were sent to Strava (this is odd to have 55mins 100m workout). My altitude dive required manual input, even with an altimeter, (my old computer automatically changed and had not as much technology in it),
We were promised a big update. The smartphone app also gave us hints about changing watch faces (something a cheap 100$ chinese smart watch can do). After two months of waiting… All we got were a few bug fixes and a compas heading number in the “trash bin”. Come on… my TG-5 Camera has a better diving compass than this watch. And the watch faces… well that was for the OTHER watches….
I have nothing bad to say about the hardware, everything is software fixable… but please, put money in your dev team and give your product some love.
