Race S - Suunto App 'connect' button grey

Hi all,
I used the Race S to great satisfaction until it stopped syncing a while back. Whatever solution I try, I cannot get the sync to work again.
I can get to the stage where the Suunto app says that it ‘found a device’ and shows the number of my watch, but the ‘connect’ button is greyed out. Nothing seems to work to get the watch to connect to the app. Things I’ve tried:
-checking all settings (no airplane mode, no battery saving mode, etc)
-unpairing and re-pairing the watch through the Suunto app
-switching Bluetooth off and on again
-switching phone off and on again
-trying to install the old beta version of the app that held a solution to the previous sync issue (didn’t work as I was already on a newer firmware version)
-force stopping and reinstalling the Suunto app
-unpairing the phone from the watch menu
-factory reset of the watchAfter the factory reset of the watch, a connection to the app is required to get though the initialization phase, which I can now no longer do. This prevents me from using the watch at all at this point.
Does anyone have a suggestion for a solution?

@TombTomb Try resetting the Bluetooth and WIFI settings on the phone
This procedure deletes all connections and will require reconnecting to all networks
