Custom sport mode capabilities question
-
Guys, I’m may be stupid and just did not find a way how use efficiently Custom sport mode.
What I found while using my Suunto Vertical is that Custom sport mode is only activity screen customisation with no possibility to track your “custom activity” later in app or even in watch.
My use case for example is:
- Cycling training - I use built in basic activity for this
- Cycling on city bike to work - I created custom sport mode for this based on Cycling.
What I would expect:
To be able to distinguish between these activities and see some statistics for each one separately as mixing them together makes no sense.
Please tell me I’m stupid and just missing something. The only way I found is to TAG activities later in app which is of course so cumbersome especially when activity type was know on very beginning when it was started.
Thanks so much for response.

I might have a solution that is gimmicky, and only works for one custom sport.
If you need to set it separately, set up an unspecified sport mode as you need from the very end of the list, and that’ll grant you a different type in app.
It’s inelegant, but functional I’d imagine.

@The_77 Thanks for suggestion.
I was also playing with this option. But if I use this approach then activity ends up in App as OtherN where N is growing number for any new custom sport mode with no option to give it at least a name. This sounds to me like a bad joke from Suunto.
Like this I have to remember that for example Other8 is my “City cycling” and hope it will never change. Im also not sure what specific parameters for this “universal” activity will be used instead of cycling ones.
I see two options how this can be resolved in meaningful way by Suunto:
-
Allow to copy existing sport mode and give user chance to name it (I know this can be potentially hard to achieve for devs in current state)
-
Enable sort of auto tagging for newly created custom sport mode. Every activity performed in particular sport mode would get defined TAG(s) automatically.
Anyway thanks so much for your replay.

@Miloush I do not think tagging is that cumbersome, the tags autofill and I typically have several to distinguish equipment and the type of workout.
-
@Brad_Olwin I don’t think tagging it self in current state is cumbersome.
I just don’t want to go to APP every time I finish my activity to add always the same TAG to it. Like this I have to distinguish something that was already distinguished at very beginning again and again.
As a software developer I always follow one rule: “Don’t force user to take action if you don’t have to”
I’m not sure if I expressed my self well. Or may be I’m missing something and good advice will fix it for me. I just want my “Custom sport mode” to somehow label the activity.
Any ideas?

@Miloush Creating a custom sport mode won’t work as you cannot sort for those so tagging is presently the only option.

Ok, I understand.
Does it make sense to you what I’m trying achieve? What is the best way to create feature request? Here on this forum?
Thanks for your advice.

@Miloush You can create a feature request, this would be for the app. Votes count and will potentially raise the priority with developers.

@Miloush
Could it look like my last “idea” here?
