Well, I have a SV Titanium Solar and the OHR was plain terrible when I got it in Nov 2023. Same as my old Fenix 6S Pro.
I got a Nylon strap - still not great: even during a flat, 20-minute run, the HR would lock on to my cadence 3 to 4 times and would stay there until I stopped running.
But I tried again after the last update… And it’s pretty good now. It’s now usable for easy runs, at least in hot weather.
Fewer runs with HR strap = happy Suunto runner/cyclist here.

Mine also seems to be fairly accurate. But it sometimes has a hard time around 95-115bpm for me. Anything more intense and it seems to work, and less intense also. But the transition between normal walking and walking fast uphill it seems to struggle to pick up on, unless I position the watch a bit higher on my arm and ensure that it is strapped down tightly.

I have compared it with a Fenix 7 Pro for a week, and although the Garmin sensor seems to be more responsive and pick up changes faster, I more or less end up with the same average bpm. I also experienced that the Garmin sensor lost my heart rate in the same way (was walking fast at around 110bpm, then started walking uphill which increases heart rate, and the watch dropped down to around 73-75bpm, and didnt pick up the change unless I stopped and raised my arm and stood still for a while, then it shot up to around 130-140bpm).

I do wish the Vertical had the same sensor as the new Race S however. That seems like a much better sensor.

Mine has been quite accurate since the beginning - I periodically correlate it with a chest strap or arm strap and my AW and close enough that I have rarely used a strap regularly.

For me it is also much better in different sports. Even swimming. Just weight lifting it is still unusable. Unfortunately. By the way also with the Race S. I have tried today the Race S on my left wrist and the Ocean on my right. And Ocean was even closer to the chest strap than Race S! Hopefully Suunto can also improve the algorithm for sport like weightlifting.

@Patrick-Löffler-0 For some reason the Ocean is the most accurate for me in everything 🙂 HR, steps, absolute spot on GPS track (I was even able to see where I had to move 2m to the left to pass one old biker) 🙂 It’s strange because it’s heaviest watch but sits very nicely on my wrist due to being a bit bigger.
Don’t get me wrong the Race and Vertical (absolute beast in gps accuracy) are accurate but the Ocean is just a touch more accurate and stable too (have not had a single hickup-of course I don’t have it too long but…)

@EzioAuditore My love for the Ocean is also growing daily. That is really surprising. Like you said it is the heaviest of all the watches. Also the screen for me is the most readable in any lightning condition. Now imagine they even improve some aspects (also OHR) in a firmware update further! With which armband are you using it. I am just wearing it with the one it came with.

@Patrick-Löffler-0 me too. I like the classic way of fastening. For some reason the bands on the Vertical are the ‘worst’ for me. The Race is better but the Ocean is the best 🙂
