The feedback after using suunto vertical for 2 months
-
Hi, here is in the nutshell my observations with suunto vertical watch after 2 months of freshly new experience: in the very nut nutshell i would compare it to microsoft surface - perfect hardware, mediocre user experience.
While i understand the watch is focused on trainings, it should track life as well, and here it is, where it is very behind:
Messages: often, i do not know who calls from which platform or, what a message is… simply i cannot read or there is no icon or bothThe tracking of vital functions is far behind the competition… i would love to recognize, what time i was woken up, so i could identify the source. But not with this watch. Or, the watch does not track weight at all…. But i want to.
The biggest feedback is to the activity modes. I understand, that when user goes for activity, for example, running or diving or fittness for 1-4 hours, it is natural, that he/she is focused only onto the activity. But, when i go for multistage track, i would appreciate to have full information capacity at hand while i do activity. I;d suggest, i start the activity, if i want i see the widgets, but i could get out of the locked world and see other data, for example notofications when i take rest.
Display faces are nice, but predefined. Some have more info other the less info. My pick is unfortunately, the one with minimal info. Even battery level is not available there. Would be great, if display faces would have the same amount of info to display. Or, let user to pick what x info he/she wants to have as icon on the display. .
Map on watch is super and i appreciate it. Only point of feedback is, that to get out of map widget is the short click on middle button, which is completely different to the overall control logic of the buttons. And, to fix the mistake takes long time waiting until the three dots gets changed to the arrow….
The watch does not watch over the safety of the user. For example your apple competitor, when it recognize its user fell senseless, start the procedure of emergency calling with sharing coordinates…. I would appreciate something similar and more, as i use to go to dangerous places (high mountains)
App in the mobile is really for sport users. So, you cannot see easily the body monitoring data, you have to scroll through trainigs… cumbersome compared to all of your competitors. On top of that, as i do not go to mountain every day for one hour, but for 4 days in the month, all my data looks awkward… though, i love the watch does not bully me to get into any sort of pattern it desires.
Maps have a lot of room for improvement. In country i live (czech rep) the map is simply not complete and i cannot make decisions based on info presented there. I would die there, do you know, that your app marked “manneken piss” in brussels at completely other place, that the usual one? Of course, it was named the same name, but it was the name of the restaurant 11km from the fountain… On the other hand, i love heatmap and relative easiness to load the route after i plan it in other app.
The solar charging widget is completely not of use. It takes a lot of space for information nobody cares. I would not change my hand movements just to allow solar charging, or i would not take my shirt off either.
Looking forward to see something of this happening so i can enjoy my new watch even more.
Marek.

I don’t understand. The sleep tracking shows you fall asleep and wake up times.

I don’t understand again. You have access to your notifications with pressing and holding the lower button (either when recording or paused). Notifications is a menu item in the control panel during exercise.

This is there as well. Go into the watch face customization menu and choose what info you want on your watch face.

yup, that is feature sometimes requested. Understood.
Thank you for the other valuable feedback!
Enjoy your watch! -
@Marek-Machala it is not easy to understand your post (english is not my native language either).
What I understand from your post is that you’d like to have more smartwatch features. The thing is that Suunto watches are more sport watches than smartwatches. And I like that. When you are seriously with your sports, you want accuracy, precision, battery…all those things the Vertical has.
The same happens in watches from other brands. Coros watches are more sport watches, like Suunto. Garmin has watches that are more an smartwatch (like the Venu) or an sport watch (like the Fenix). For me, the Vertical is the best watch of the market at this moment. But that is because of my use cases (ultra trails and long distance runs and long distance triathlons). And I have had many many watches and very expensive ones. This time, Suunto has done an incredible job and is again there, where It was a while ago.
