Suunto Race S general discussion

@Egika said in Suunto Race S general discussion:
like adjusting the volume when within the media controls etc.
that would be just great!
-
@Patrick-Rx I ordered it just a few days ago, on the 9th of september. I think this was also the day they changed the description on the website, but I didnāt notice it before ordering
-
@altcmd Same issue here. I Received my Race S yesterday, flipped over the back of the watch, āMade in Chinaā oh I was surprised. All my Suuntoās that I own, ALL are made in Finland ā¦all except this oneā¦
-
Can it be that TSS is calculated directly after the run in watch preliminary and is corrected when syncing? I get before syncing different values than after syncing?
-
I just double checked and I think Suunto needs to really correct this. Look closely and the watch on Suuntoās Race S page (specifically the gif and image 3 if you look at the default Black variant from a computer) still says Made in Finland. But the description which was recently updated now says CN.
-
@altcmd this is an interesting point, making a top watch, with a MIP screen and big enough to have a big battery, is a sensible choice for that segment of āenthusiastsā and sportsmen from very long and multi-day activities. But what I donĀ“t understand, is why they donĀ“t at least make a version of a small watch with a MIP screen, small watches have small batteries and here the MIP would also make a lot of sense. Perhaps MIP screens are difficult to make and assemble for watches with small dials?

@Roberto_m The 9 Peak Pro exists, so its possible. With the new lower price its also a very attractive option if you donāt need maps

without maps I would not need a watch.

Seems as though right after I put the message about the photos and gif showing Made in Finland, all traces of the said images have now disappeared from the website. Albeit the retailers still have the original, they would most likely be selling a Made in China watch but promoting it as Made in Finland.

Owning Race S for a week and I am very satisfied! Coming from S9P great Update! I thought I keep the S9P for a while, but Race S convinced me fast! Race S feels very comfortable. Lighter watch body and well balanced. This is really noticeable. Probably because of lighter glas and less steel. Very nice. The Display is also so nice. Also during running. Readability perfect. Gorilla Glas very crisp, better touch, cleaner. Think biking will also do good. Thats why I also sold S9P quickly. The S9P design is more radical. Think Race S more pleasant. The watch looks litte bigger, although steel bezel diameter the same, because the body not cut straight. Very nice! The few runs I did, S9P still very accurate in compare to Race S. But was in easy GPS terrain. Overall for me very best watch on market, also in relation to price. New UI, crown, button feel, vibration is a dream. Decent 2nd watchface very good solution. Build quality awesome!

Hello,
I will give my point of view on my Race S.
But I think she will go back to the storeā¦
My basic problem is that I have years of using Garmin behind me.
But I liked the Race. A correct size watch, with map and Amoled screen, at this price, it was great.
Only here, when we knew Garmin, well Suunto still has a long way to go to catch up with them.
What I like about the Race S is its size, very good for me.
Its pleasant screen (like all Amoled).
His card is very readable and responsive.
Itās GPS accuracy. Rather in the application, and which I think must be corrected because on the watch it is not quite the same
What bothers me the most is already the heart sensor. I run, cycle and row. I put the rowing machine aside because for watches, it is difficult to properly capture the heart rate.
But in running, almost every time, the first 4 or 5 minutes are wrong. I stay in the 70 or 80 beats. Impossible thing.
Then a lot of practical little things, but absent at Suunto. Among them, the sleep mode that you canāt activate whenever you want. We can program it but thatās all. And besides, why not automatically lock the keys in sleep mode!? Forced to go through a shortcut for that.
Notifications. Why is it impossible to put them only in vibrator, without the whole watch being in vibrator!?
In the race, with intervals, a ringtone indicates the change. Ok but why not have a 5-sec count (still present at Garmin), which allows you to prepare for change.
Autonomy. In the standard we will say, even if the Garmins last much longer (my wife has a Forerunner 265 and the battery lasts longer). On the other hand, the Race S recharges very quickly!
You will tell me āgo back to Garmin and leave us aloneā .
Thatās whatās going to happen I think but Iām still disappointed because I like this watch.
Others will say that updates will certainly evolve all this by adding functions and correcting others.
Surely, but I donāt buy a watch for that or to be a tester.
And sorry but read everywhere here that at the slightest problem you have to reset or something like thatā¦ But no!!! The watch must work one point thatās all.
During the time spent at Garmin and several watches purchased, I never had any problems, or bugs, or possible updates to wait for.I can no longer convince myself that Suunto makes as good watches as before.
Their watches are beautiful, pleasant, but lack so many functions and practicality compared to the Garmin, Coros or even Apple Watch.
I find that they do like Polar, they come out great watches but not totally to the point. And we have to wait for updatesā¦
And the worst thing is that all the small points of detail, important for me, maybe not for others, are just Software. Itās just programming.
Itās a shame.
I just give my point of view and donāt try to discourage others .

@suuntastic More picture comparisons please!

@FrkBZH35 If you want Garmin features you should purchase a Garmin. Suuntoā Garmin and Suunto does not want to equal Garmin. For exercise on multi-band GPS Garmin battery life is much, much worse as RaceS is 30h on mulitband with maps and routes! OHR is not an accurate method for measuring HR on any device either Apple, Garmin, Coros or Suunto. A belt provides much more accurate data as is seen from the new ZoneSense release from Suunto.
The functions that Garmin has and Suunto does not are not wanted by many of us. Suuntoās approach to training is far, far better than Garmin IMHO as CTL, TSB and ATL are used by the vast majority of athletes in Endurance sports. Suunto allows the user to interpret data for training rather than saying your body battery is low. I know when I donāt sleep well.
Not to be antagonistic but providing a different point of view. There are features I want to have on Suunto watches that are missing but those features are not necessarily on Garmin, Apple or Coros. -
@Brad_Olwin
Just to clarify, 13% less battery on my 01:37 bike rideā¦we are far from 30 hours announced. -
@FrkBZH35 if youāre worried about battery , youāre on the wrong Suunto watch , but I get your point.
-
@FrkBZH35 My battery consumption today with HR chest strap for a 2 hour MTB ride was 12% with always on display. In my experience, with the display set to āRaise to wakeā, the consumption would have been roughly half of it, which more or less matches Suuntoās promise.
-
-
@obhikkhu I wasnāt complaining but merely replying to a previous post of someone stating their findings of the battery life during a bike ride. My battery consumption during exercise is roughly what I stated whether I perform a soft reset or not (been there, done thatā¦).
-
@obhikkhu That is to say?
The watch that bugs and does it by itself?
Or is it up to us to do it after each use? (If thatās it, sorry but a joke

Hi! I have realized lately that the watch registers my naps (on the picture those little orange dots on monday, thursday, friday). But they wonāt sync to the app anymore (sometimes like last sundays long nap it also synced to app). Iāve read from reddit that somebody else also having this problem about for one month now. Tried to sync many times, tried to power off and on the watch. Anybody else having the same, any suggestions how it could be fixed or is it a software problem?
