Solar no longer works
-
Hi I have had my suunto vertical since it was released and has been absolutely flawless and excellent product. Today I noticed that the solar is no longer working unfortunately?? I don’t want to send it back as I use the watch everyday and solar is not a deal breaker but if there is any ideas how I could get it to work myself would be great ? I’m afraid to do any resets as it will likely delete my V02max and all my hr zone and other data I have in the watch will it not ?
Thanks

@gone-troppo Can you elaborate a bit more on “is no longer working”?
Is your battery level >95%? Then solar is never working. -
@surfboomerang hi nope the battery is on 20% the little solar icon no longer lights up and the solar bars on the watchface no longer go up when in the sun that’s what made me notice it today in full sun

@gone-troppo Did you do a soft-reset of the watch? If so, then I think it’s best to contact Suunto support.

@surfboomerang hey mate no I I have never done a soft reset on the watch guess I will try that.
Edit so I did soft reset and the solar bars on the watch face were fixed it shows that it has been getting solar charge however on the top right of the watch face when I select the solar icon it doesn’t light up to show it’s charging however the bars at bottom of watch were going up. Weird anyway I think the solar is working despite this one not lighting up

Soft reset (turn off, turn on device) is always first thing to do with a problems
Seems like it works now. You could leave watch in full sun for a few hours (which is not much recommended by Suunto) to see if You gain 1% of battery. (Should get like 1%/2h but it strong depends on lighting, weather, angle). I sometimes leave watch on full sun and gain 1-2% (when taking nap, cooking or something). I found that with very big sun i get like 1%/2h sometimes more. -
Nope it doesn’t work still, after I did the soft reset yesterday it “refreshed” the little bars at the bottom of the watch face however when out in the sun the solar thing on top right of screen that looks like a snowflake that doesn’t light up like it used to when going into sun.
It’s not a deal breaker I will continue to use the watch a little disappointing that this feature failed after a year. The rest of the watch has been great.

@gone-troppo the solar sign change then when you direct put your Display in the sind. If you turn it in shadow or no direct sunlight there isnt the solar sign

Seems only the little lightening bolt symbol inside the snowflake looking thing that represents solar charging lights up for a split second in the sun then dissapears. The bars down the bottom don’t change and when you go into solar im the menu it just says idle.

@gone-troppo This is not the normal behavior… I would contact the support
