Sync routes during workout
-
Quick question, I’ve been having this issue a few times now, I’m out running or riding a bike, and somewhere mid way I want to change the route. No problem, I create the route, go to library and select to have it available on the watch.
However, I need to stop the current exercise completely, then sync and then I have the gpx on the watch.
Is there a way to do this without stopping the current exercise, in order to have one complete record of the activity?
Thanks for your advice

@nomison
yes, it was designed this way, to change/edit the route during an activity.
I haven’t done this recently, but already did it several times.
just edit the route in SA, save it and sync and the watch will show the latest route -
@nomison I don’t think you do. Change navigation to bread crumb. Resync then change back to route.
I have needed to do this a few times. It works fine. Other option is to save the edited task as something else. Send to watch and change the route.

@Audaxjoe
I’m sorry, I just tried and can confirm it works as I recall.
load your planned route, track your activity, you decide mid activity to edit your route on the phone in SA, save it and it syncs automatically and immediately to the watch and the new route is shown without stopping or reloading or changing navigation… it simply works as I expect it -
@freeheeler is it still so?
I just did a quick test. Started a workout with a route, then created another route in app. New route was synced to the watch and I was able to select it during ongoing workout.
Could be that it’s not yet in the released firmware

@pavel-samokha
selecting different routes in ongoing activity was always (?) possible or at least for a long time. editing active route and sync on the fly has been implemented several months/years ago and it works flawlessly ever since for me. it is ultimative convenient when you run into unexpected road closures and I used it practically in real life already -
@freeheeler yes I have used it several times from the 9baro onwards.
But wasn’t sure of the sequence.I did try to show a friend how to add a waypoint mid walk the other day and the waypoint did not sync over…
Which made me think you had to change to breadcrumbs then back again.
I don’t edit in SA. This is probably the issue for me. I always use Kamoot.

Thanks for all the quick replies, same here, I use Komoot to create routes and wasn’t able to sync these new Komoot routes mid activity, will try again with Suunto app and also with trying to stop the route.
Cheers

@nomison you will be able to sync mid ride, without stopping the activity.
Amend in Kamoot, you then have to download it on the phone to SA as SA doesn’t pick up on amendments made in Kamoot.
When the new route is on SA press send to watch.Scroll down in activity and go into navigation and select the ‘new’ route.
It is a pity amendments in Kamoot do not automatically carry over to SA.

@Audaxjoe I tried again today and had the same issue, the app says: “in order to be able to sync, stop exercise, exit any menus in the watch, and wait a moment.”
am I just stupid or is there a problem somewhere? Pixel 6 is my phone

@nomison
Did you export gpx file from Komoot and import it in SA manually?
And, most important, sync route during activity has “nothing” to see with the watch menu sync in the app.
All happen in the background from the route menu in the app.
Create a new route or import it in SA in the route app menu, toggle it 5o be used in the watch, and a pop up here should say “… Is syncing”, check in your watch in itinerary during your exercise and this new route should be there. -
@Mff73 thanks, good to know that it should sync in the background, this was not clear to me at all! Is this mentioned in some handbook or somewhere? Was not aware of this, will keep trying!

@nomison as above it works really well. I am also on a Pixel phone, I think the 4.
-
@Audaxjoe worked like a charm yesterday. I was just overthinking I believe, background sync is great
-
@nomison over thinking it’s easy done. I also have the Pixel 6. No idea where I got number 4 from
