SOFTWARE UPDATE 2.33.12 - Q1 2024
-
@Durri The only way (still to dark for me) to keep dimmed display and avoid complete black display at the moment, is to turn on AOD before starting activity. But note! It still works only, if you are using one oh f the 3 new watch faces! Otherwise AOD setting will not help either. It’s a BUG!
-
@ppresing Thanks for the tip, what is AOD?
-
@Durri Always on display. Screen always turned on.

Hmm, I have AOD turned on always and don’t experience blackouts of the screen during activities. And I use the original Race watchface - not one of the 3 new ones.
Guess we are not all affected equally (as it often the case with bugs).

@MiniForklift oh well. It’s just another six or twelve months and it’ll get fixed. Probably
Better in 12 months than never, just like in Garmin
-
@Durri Always On Display = AOD (located in Control panel)
-
@ppresing Tried and tested AOD with the original Race dial, and it works! The backlight is nothing extra, but better than a dark screen. Thanks for the tip️

In the next update S. Race, how about leaving the option to choose the backlight of the screen when choosing cycling: off, weak, strong. Or start cooperating with companies like Wahoo, Sigma… and bring the possibility of synchronizing third-party devices with the Suunto app.
The Race does not have a backlight. What exactly do you mean? I guess you mean the dreaded shit change that AOD is now taken from general use into sports use …
Yes. If data from Wahoo or generally any TCX file could be imported into Suunto, there wouldn’t even be the necessity to record with both devices… That’s also a really bad design choice for an ecosystem of a vendor who does not even offer specific cycling devices…
-
@Olaf-Gottschalk Yes, I meant AOD light intensity…I really like the Suunto app itself and would hate to leave it. I’m already thinking about the Sigma Rox 11.1 just to display driving data when nothing will happen from Suunto for a long time. Maybe I’ll look weird on a Sigma bike and a Suunto measurement on my hand but what can I do…I’ll wait two weeks…
-
@Olaf-Gottschalk The Suunto platform from an API perspective does allow uploading of activities, there’s just no capability in the app to do so. A solution I’ve used is Runalyze, which you can connect to Suunto and provides an “Upload FIT File” on the Suunto connection. Once uploaded the activity just appears like any other in the Suunto app.

@ODo67
I’ll re-report it -
I learned today that the pause reminder feature acts as a “don’t forget to end” feature as well.
When I started a windsurf activity today, the wind wasn’t strong enough yet so I was just floating around a little bit. After a while the wind picked up and speeds went up from 10km/h to 50km/h. At that moment, the watch vibrated and reminded that abnormal speeds were detected and if I want to end my activity. Oh no my dear watch, this is where the fun begins. We’re not going to end the activity now
Luckily the message is only once after each start or pause. Still a great feature Suunto

@freeheeler Thanks
-
@surfboomerang I experienced quite a bit with different activities for wrist HR and my findings all pointed to same: get a chest band if you want great accuracy in HR reading. For weight training / walking / running it’s a game changer in my case!
-
@ODo67 is this issue specific to the Race? I haven’t been able to go on a run lately so haven’t experienced it (yet)

I had a couple of strange recordings of my sleep right after the update but seems fixed after a couple of days. Now I am also getting the correct recognition of the time slept on the plane (which I never had in the past with the Race or my previous 9 Baro). This is very interesting to me as I travel a lot for work.
Kudos to the developers! Also I love the fact that finally Sunrise and Sunset times are no longer all over the places after changing time zones.
Thanks for this as well! -
Is it possible to revert to the previous FW?

Hi everyone
I’m a new user of Suunto Race Black, I don’t have much experience with this type of device but I would like to share my thoughts about the new update:
- the update process went without a problem
- device responds correctly, no problems with the operation of the buttons and crown
problems that appeared after the update:
- already twice the watch could not synchronize data with the phone (Samsung Glaxy S21) - restarts of the phone helped.
- there were problems with data synchronization between the watch and the Suunto app - in my case, the sleep tracking data differed between what was in the watch and in the app. In the app the data was incomplete, 2 hours were missing, I thought the data would be completed on the next sync. Unfortunately, this did not happen. According to the information I was able to find on the forum, it was necessary to perform a reinstallation of the application. It helped, for 2 days. Today the situation repeated, again the data in the application is incomplete.
I noticed that the problem may occur when the watch has not yet registered that the user got out of bed, or has not finished recording the sleep data, because when I checked the sleep registration status on the watch, the message summarizing the sleep time did not appear. It appeared only after several seconds indicating the total value of slept hours unfortunately incomplete data had already been synchronized in the application.
