Navigating from waypoint to WP along a track
-
Hi
I’ve just received a vertical as gift for my birthday. I go next week to Norway for a snowkite expedition. I’ve loaded the tracks into the watch. Doing some tests , I am facing 2 issues :
1- I cannot find the way to show bearing / distance to next waypoint on the track, and automatically switch to next waypoint when previous one is reached (this feature exists for years on garmin gps )
2- in snowkite we can quickly be far away from the track (more than 500m). When it happens on the Vertical you don’t see the track anymore on the screen. Is there a way to get an arrow or a line which indicates where to go to get back on the track.Thanks in advance for your help

Hi @beontrail74 / Olivier,
1- If you add your waypoints on your planified route, and if you use your route to navigate, there is no “native” indication for next waypoint. I have the same use than you for ultra running : I have set a personnal sport mode, with one screen diplaying distance to next waypoint. When I reach the point it switches automatically to the next one. It works well this way, also if you go out of your track.
2 - not sure what advice I can give. Just notice that since fall update there is a 2km zoom in SV. Just zoom out in the navigation screen.I let other experimented users complete or correct.

Hi @Tieutieu
Thanks for your advice. It only partially answer to my need as it allows to have distance to wp but not bearing. My wish would be to have the “bearing navigation” screen available to the next wp of the track. It is disappointing that a such advanced watch does not propose this feature. It was available on my garmin GPS60 which is 20years old.
Regarding the zoom level , I have installed the last update but it is still limited to 500m on my vertical. Is there a parameter to change somewhere ?

Nothing to change, which firmware version are you using?

@beontrail74 I knew you wouln’d be entirely pleased with my answer !
I agree with you, in cases when you can easily get away the main route, it would very nice to have both navigation among route + bearing to next waypoint (when using waypoints).Unless I’ve missed something : for now you can navigate along a route, or to a waypoint, but not at the same time (You can switch from navigation along route or to POI as much as you want during an exercing).

Anyone know if a Suunto+ App could be written to do the job (if the regular FW can’t)?

@isazi
Indeed the 2km zoom level works.

@Tieutieu
When snowkiting you usually wear big gloves , and you prefer to keep your hands on the bar and your eyes on the kite. The less you play with the small buttons of your watch , the safer and faster you are. It is super handy when the device switches automatically from one wp to the next. -
@Fenr1r
That would be great if an app can do it.
