@babychai all I can see is that fixing this bug was planned for Q1, so this update, but I guess there was not enough time.
Thanks for the insights! Good to hear they are working on it.
Instead of fixing the breadcrumb line another good - or even better - solution could be to offer an explicit track back option in the navigation menue (i. e. the recorded track is taken as a new track and is just followed back - ambit peak 3 had that option).
I am not a software engineer - but is it that difficult considering the fact, that the track itself is recorded correctly? The recorded data just has to be taken and followed the other way around…
-
I definitely agree with you, they should do an instant update without waiting any longer when the problem is fixed.
Having the possibility to follow your track back for an outdoor gps watch is like showing the correct time - this should work correctly anytime and under any circumstances.

I fully agree.
Being able to follow your track back is the main reason I bought an expensive GPS watch. It’s a safety tool, especially for mountain activities such as ski-touring (spring season on glacier has just started)The track back option existed on old suunto watches (traverse, ambit …) and has disappeared on Race, Vertical, and even 9 peak, replaced by the beadcrumb line.
I don’t know for how long Suunto has been aware of this bug, but I guess at least for 6 months.
If it’s complicated to fix the breadcrumb, they should at least provide a back-up solution with the track back option they do have in their old catalog.
I have a 6 days ski touring trip planned in 2 weeks, I will have to bring my old Suunto traverse, and it is a major disappointment.
This bug has been happening on every ski tourng activity I had, including for rather short activities (4-5 hours), not for record long activities !!
This is totally unaccpetable for a premium “adventure outdoor watch”.
-
@skitouring for my case, track disappeared is not always happen but not sure what trigger it to happen no matter short or long activities. currently i wearing my S9P as a backup.
-
-
@Brad_Olwin does it happen always ? Or just sometimes ? In which case?
(I have a SV)
Thanks -
@Antoine it will happen on long activities.

Double underline that! It happens on every tour, long or short it doesn‘t matter.
The ambit peak 3 was a good piece of hardware, reliable in every situation, never experienced any bugs in 8+ years I used it.
The reasons to switch to vertical were
— much longer battery life (relevant esp. for multi day trips)
— possibility to sync routes directly via mobile
— maps (nice, but the least important feature of the three)I thought that of course the vertical could do everything the ambit could do and had some additional features. I was very dissapointed that a vital feature like track back is missing. If the clouds are moving in in the mountains (and this cam go really fast!), this feature can be worth a ton of gold.
(Besides that, since the last update I cannot connect my watch any more so that it’s completely useless - but that‘s a different topic).
It seems to me that, as a marketing strategy, sunnto is more focussed on lifestyle features inspired by apple watch & co. Vertical could be a good watch, but right now is a total dissapointment to me. I wouldn‘t have bought it if I had known before that there are so many bugs.

what’s wrong with breadcrumb? I miss the point
sure ambit 3 peak has been a loyal mate! -
@cjanevate Breadcrumb doesn‘t work correctly - the first half of the line disappears. So you cannot rely on it. That‘s what this topic is about (see the first entrys if you want)…

in one sentence, a bug is identified, known by suunto, and not yet fixed in the recent update. How could you have missed the point it is written in all messages.
-
@ortles The loss of breadcrumb issue iswell discussed and not necessary to beat to death. Suunto is working on a fix and I suspect it is not simple.
-
@Mff73 ahem, I misread the post and was thinking about something else
-
I am sure they know what they are doing. And I believe that it is not simple. That is where the idea comes from to offer an explicit track back option if this is may be easier to implement.
And I think it‘s OK to express that it is not the best situation that vertical is on the market since 05/23 and the option is still missing. That‘s how I see it and I am not alone with that.
But you are right, the facts are known, and we can just wait and see or look for different solutions or whatever. If they are working on it and they will find a solution for that, this would be the best case.
-
@ortles sure, sorry I was thinking about something else!!!
-
@Brad_Olwin according to the previous post, it seems that the recording in Suunto App is not impacted ? The whole trace is visible in Suunto App. That’s right?
-
@Antoine yes, it is only in the map screen on the watch during activity. The full track is recorded and available in the app.

if i dare to make an ironic post, you are right : when your life is dependant on the watch breadcrumb display, there might be an issue, but when safely back home, you will follow your track on your sofa 🥳
Hey, guys, it is for putting a small tone of humour there -
I am not happy with this issue either! I use this while ski touring extensively and depend on it. But, I cannot fix it and ranting won’t fix it. My solution now is to plot a route and load the route.
-
@Brad_Olwin
i always upload the route for all of my hiking activities but this route is only for reference and cannot fully rely on it.The actual route that i taken and the one i uploaded can be very different because there are landslide, fallen trees, fallen bamboo, overgrown vegetation etc blocking the path and i need to detour/avoid it by bushwhacking to open the new route. So when i going back to trailhead i need to refer back to my own breadcrumb (redline) instead of blueline.
