FPO error on Suunto Spartan (maybe other models too?)o)

I let my Spartan go flat overnight. This morning I plugged it into my PC to recharge. As the display woke up all it said was (in large letters) FPO with a repeated 15 second countdown underneath. Googled that error and got no matches. Tried various watch buttons (including soft reset) with absolutely no response. After I had let a little more charge come in I took it off the charger then the soft reset (12 second press on top right button) thankfully brought the watch back to life.
