Update the Spartan series software!
-
When I got my Suunto Spartan Sport WHR a couple of years ago it was as the name spartan says a beast of its own. Rock solid build quality, great design, good data and nice features. As of today, the watch is still going. There is a lot of wear and scratches that it has gathered threw out my activities and adventures in Europe, which I personal do not mind and really like because of its sign of adventure.
That is why I do not see a need for replacing my watch, also of the reason being that the hardware features that the new watches provide (Baro, O2 and design) do not make me abandon my trusted companion (If my current watch would break, I will be looking for a watch that provides the additional data).
So, this is what frustrates me, that my perfectly working watch is not getting the updated software that the S9 has even though it is running the same Suunto OS. The features being: resources, fitness level, turn by turn navigation, snap to route and better battery management.
Now I know that software development is not cheap, I paid for what I got then in terms of hardware and software, as do people that buy new watches now. If the update cannot be provided for free because of Suunto being a company which as all companies are driven by revenue, I am perfectly fine if they sell me the update for a fair price. This would not only benefit the consumer but also the environment and probably Suunto as a company, giving it a good reputation for long living support of their devices.
There are a lot of Suunto 9 users in this forum that this will probably not concern…
…yet, because you are next and in one or two years you will be sitting right next to us spartan users if there is no change. -
@peringmar
Hi!I think it has really been discussed many times.
Spartan came out in the summer of 2016 and has been supported for 3.5 years. It doesn’t seem like a small thing to me.Also, the operating system is the same, but the hardware isn’t, 9 series have better one. New updates assume better performance.
Last but not least, turn by turn navigation can also be activated on the spartan series

@saketo-nemo Sorry, but amen to what the OP said. At least they could have retained the original features that came with Movescount that are gone.
I can no longer recommend Suunto due to that and their lack of communication. Officially Spartans are not EOL, but they actually are.

@jsuarez there was no luck of communication especially about movescount and Suunto still continues to add value to even ambits via the app.
