Future S9 firmware wishlist summary

@isazi Totally agree with you. I did buy the watch because of the functionality at that time.
Not expecting new feature through updates, although very very welcome if new features keep coming through future updates (Suunto are you reading this? )
I did however bought the watch with the idea that the existing functionality will be improved with updates for a specific amount of time. For instance bug fixes, performance improvements and GPS firmware updates. At least for a couple of years.
The question remains when will improvements of existing functionality become new functionality? I think those are the most debated subjects.
What if there is new functionality in the next Suunto watch that could be delivered to the existing ones but Suunto decide they won’t? I think we see a lot of complains in this forum. But to be honest… we bought our current watch with the functionality at that time. Suunto doesn’t have to deliver everything to every watch. It’s up to them if they want to do that or not.

@surfboomerang
same with phones… the expectation for improvement updates and even new OS is high.
and phones with faster updates and longer guaranteed updates sell like hot cakes -
@surfboomerang I agree. I can’t imagine any specific function that makes S9 useless.
The problem is that I can’t use some functions which already exist.
For example, the activity planning is already possible on my S9 but can’t use it because SA lacks this function.
Additionally, on iOS, saved routes cannot be edited again, which is hard to understand. -
@luís-pinto increible tatoo
-
@suzzlo I was hoping it was an optional laser projection. That’ll have to wait for the S11, I guess.
-
@fenr1r I think so, it requires new HW…

It’s possibly already been mentioned but it would be good to see the elevation gain go up a metre/foot at a time. Lag aside it would feel closer to ascending in real time, rather than having it jump up in 3 or 4m increments
Can’t imagine it would be too hard to implement as it already goes up a metre at a time in SuuntoPlus Climb
-
@surfboomerang I fully agree and bought the watch as it was.
But after using the watch for 6 months I see some points of improvement, which could make me even happier as a user.

does the new Sunnto+ vario (xalps…) could solve this for you ?

@fenr1r the a3p could add waypoints on the watch, but this was incredibly cumbersome. If you were working in Swiss grid you couldn’t change the two axes independently, when you changed one coordinate the other changed as well! The only reason I used this was because I didn’t carry a laptop with me on holidays.
I find the new method of adding waypoints, through an app on a device that I carry with me all the time, totally acceptable and a lot more agreeable. Only caveat is that I (probably, never tried) cant add coordinates when I don’t have phone coverage.

@soojong-moon Ditto for the impossibility to edit routes on iOS. Worst part of the SA ecosystem.
-
@soylent-yellow route editing may be coming.

Hi all,
I have a S9 baro.
My suggestion for adding a “backlight on” screen icon, because sometimes, the screen goes on, and in certain conditions, you cannot note it, like sunlight, or when you are in the sea o swimming pool. When you twist your wrist, sometimes the button is pushed so the screen gets unlocked, and an accidental touch o when water touches the screen, it gets light on.
Regards.
-
@gnz-ct That’s exactly why my S9B backlight is set to automatic instead of toggle.
-
@surfboomerang That’s right, but in automatic mode, screen goes on every notification you receive (whatsapp, telegram, sms,…) and it was bothering me
-
@gnz-ct @surfboomerang “Patience Grasshopper”. you can look that quote up and probably infer something.
-
@brad_olwin apparently Kung Fu will be another upcoming spots mode XD
-
-
This comes to mind:
- In between numbers for compass declination (exp. +3.54, -1.58 ect.)
- Break notification (if the resources go under 20% the watch tells you to slow down, take a deep breath & take a 30 min break)
- Same goes for sleep notification (like sunrise/sunset - exp. 1h before sleep it tells you that its time to go to bed/sleep)
