@nigel-taylor-0 I probably wasn’t too clear on that. I know you need WiFi for the extra downloaded area but I could be wrong, haven’t tested that in awhile.
-
@brad_olwin wow awesome I did not know that. Thanks for your help!
You should make Suunto video tutorials haha. -
@eurohiker Some of this is in the manual, the ski area information was not, I found that as you did, zooming in on our local ski area.

I never use wifi since i have 60gb data worldwide because i travel weekly. Hotel/b&b wifi is spotty sometimes and the watch sometimes doesn’t sync instantly. It’s just another variable that i have to think about.
Share the connection from your phone to the watch via wifi then
-
@isazi like wifi direct? ohh sh** can’t believe i didn’t think about that.
-
@eurohiker my Android phone can easily become a wifi hotspot.
-
@isazi damnn thanks for making me look like a dumby thanks! i’m deleting that comment haha
-
@eurohiker I haven’t tested it, as I have not left my house in 5 months
-
@isazi i’ll give it a go next weekend

Works with iOS too, I do it all the time.

@eurohiker Be aware that wifi tethering might not work for downloading maps. A post on the Suunto 7 group on facebook some time ago suggests that downloading maps might need an unmetered connection and that some Android phones might be considered as metered by the Suunto 7.

@aeroild I seem to remember a DCRainmaker article mentioning that he was unable to download maps when using wifi-hotspot.
-
@aeroild @Aleksander-H
You guys are right.
I can sync routes over wifi-direct (hotspot) but not offline maps. Using my OP7pro with Android 11.
Also, it doesn’t connect to my wifi hotpsot on 5g band only 2.4g band.Feature Request: let us download offline maps via wifi direct or bluetooth internet connection hotspot. Preferably without being hooked to a charger as well.
-
@eurohiker You need an iPhone, I can download maps anytime:)
-
@eurohiker If you’re comfortable connecting the watch to a computer and using adb you can easily instruct your watch to consider your phone as an unmetered wifi connection, and thus download maps. The command on how to do that is in the link on my previous post.
-
@aeroild i’ll give it a shot

I don’t think the S7 has support for wifi at 5 GHz, or at least that is not in the FCC certification (it only reports test results for 2.4 GHz).
