Autopause feature, please! It’s essential.
-
@nshkira yess!! like strava
also being able to resume an activity when having any tech issues. Activities already save in “Diary” automatically. We should be allowed to “Resume Hike” and be allowed to actually use that information so we can finish our activity after a tech issue without having to start a new one. Strava does this amazingly as well. “Diary” information/statistics save, at the moment, is completely useless and needs to be expanded on.
Personal Example of a Technology error that can happen, this issue would have never happened if I was recording with strava -

ski resort maps!!
They are there. Is this a request?
-
@brad_olwin Really?!?!
Yes, ski resort maps was a feature request. i haven’t seen any advertisements or review videos of suunto ski maps and the ski resorts aren’t open in France so i can’t really check.
On Garmin’st website i’ve seen them at least advertise it.
I have seen “Map Style” --> “Winter” and same in the app.EDIT: OMG THANK YOU @Brad_Olwin I didn’t zoom in enough to see them! I was going to buy the ski tracks app from google play but this is awesome. I can’t wait to try it.
can’t believe no one has a video testing/using this on youtubeI guess I change my feature request for an offline map to be larger area than 62km.
-
@eurohiker you are welcome. I think there is a reason for the map tile limit. Likely due to usability and that all heat maps are loaded as well during map sync.
Perhaps another feature you did not know, when you load a route into the watch and the watch is on a charger + has WiFi, outdoor maps will be downloaded for all routes synced to the watch.
And another map feature. If you go into SA while inside with no sport mode activated, you can set another map download area. So if you have a favorite ski area select that. The watch will download all maps for that area as well as the local area where the watch is located.
It is a very well thought out implementation of maps.

I think you don’t even need WiFI (on the Watch), just a Bluetooth connection to your phone that has data access.
I purposely disabled and removed WiFi after the first set-up on my Watch, and I get the route maps downloading when I stick the Watch on charge (plus any updates to the local area and that extra offline area that you mention).
The implementation as you suggest, is really good. If I create a route and sync it with the app, I know that the map is going to be available no matter where I am.
-
@nigel-taylor-0 I probably wasn’t too clear on that. I know you need WiFi for the extra downloaded area but I could be wrong, haven’t tested that in awhile.
-
@brad_olwin wow awesome I did not know that. Thanks for your help!
You should make Suunto video tutorials haha. -
@eurohiker Some of this is in the manual, the ski area information was not, I found that as you did, zooming in on our local ski area.

I never use wifi since i have 60gb data worldwide because i travel weekly. Hotel/b&b wifi is spotty sometimes and the watch sometimes doesn’t sync instantly. It’s just another variable that i have to think about.
Share the connection from your phone to the watch via wifi then
-
@isazi like wifi direct? ohh sh** can’t believe i didn’t think about that.
-
@eurohiker my Android phone can easily become a wifi hotspot.
-
@isazi damnn thanks for making me look like a dumby thanks! i’m deleting that comment haha
-
@eurohiker I haven’t tested it, as I have not left my house in 5 months
-
@isazi i’ll give it a go next weekend

Works with iOS too, I do it all the time.

@eurohiker Be aware that wifi tethering might not work for downloading maps. A post on the Suunto 7 group on facebook some time ago suggests that downloading maps might need an unmetered connection and that some Android phones might be considered as metered by the Suunto 7.
