Firmware Rollback - Firmware with best GPS

@isazi i’m in France and set GPS/GZSS + Galileo. it don’t looks bad. But i should try GPS/GZSS only.
Beidou shouldn’t be interesting for me, it’s for asia if i’m right and i’m in europe. -
@g287-sf You cannot compare GPS tracks from one day to the next, too many variables. In fact, you should not compare them with one watch on each arm. Each firmware release that Suunto provides is extensively tested prior to release by far more exhaustive testing than you might imagine. The perception that a particular firmware is less or more precise is just that, a perception. Unless you have data to support the claim.
-
@g287-sf to be fair, on any given day there are probably more Beidou satellites visible over France than Galileo ones.
-
@isazi Do you know a reliable android app or website to check satellite position ?

@brad_olwin My 2 GPS tracks looks similar. It was just altitude who was bad.
For me 10 meters difference for GPS is acceptable when we know gps precision is around 3.3 meters. More is limit for outdoor device because it can cause orientation error.
For Altitude with a baro and fusedalti capable device 5 meters should be good. I compare with all my casio protek who always give me a good altitude ±5 m as indicated on map or directly on place.

For firmware it’s just a question to see what people think because i read many times
" this new firmware is a downgrade "
“since the new firmware gps have issue”And we can see this last firmware say " GPS improvement".
So we can affirm this improvement don’t work because people were happier before this modification and a majority of them find their gps is less reliable since they update their watch.What do you think ? Sorry for my english, try my best
Just one statement:
If you read something many times in the internet it does not mean a majority has this opinion. -
@g287-sf
Pour moi, Suunto (A3 Peak, S5, S7, S9 Baro) fournit la meilleure précision GPS du marché. (Set to GPS only)
Ma Vertix n’est pas loin derrière.
Ma F6 pro ferme la marche…Polar n’a pas réussi à égalé la précision de la V800, sur la Vantage V du moins.

That is where the barometer comes to the rescue.
To be honest, if calibrated correctly, the Suunto 9 baro is pretty accurate in altitude to me. -
@g287-sf
I have set my watch to GPS+QZSS after playing a bit with the other systems, too. I left it as mentioned and never touched it or thought about it. Some days it’s better, some days it’s worse. But always in regards to the track itself. I think altitude shouldn’t be an issue as you’ve got the baro, right?@Brad_Olwin
you’re right, the true comparison is only possible with your cyborg tests like you do with many watches on one arm
but I think users get a general feeling if their devices are more precise, react quicker etc… it is more of an impression thing I guess. -

I have a wheel and a measured route to test how precise the GPS is. I always run/walk on the path the wheel was used and I have multiple wheel measurements to get a reliable distance. I have no idea what the neighbors think when they see me walking with a a wheel to measure distance:)

@brad_olwin if you speak French you should follow “Montre Cardio GPS” on YouTube or even is blog. I run with many watch at the same time do plenty test. You should like it.
-
@brad_olwin can’t be any worse than what they think watching you run with 7 different watches on
-
@brad_olwin
too old for a stroller, too young for a rollator -
@surfboomerang Hello, I also have the topic of GPS measurement (Baro 9) in the vertical segment! Sunny weather, on different days and different time (same tour and new tours), deviations never less than 9m! on my last 15 tours there were about 2 peaks where I was at 3m deviation! I am not satisfied with these values! BG
-
@mrony it’s not gps but barometer that gives you this values. Difference of 3m is totally tollerable for s9b if I know correctly.
-
@дима-мельниченко +|-3m ok, but Not +9m and More at every Tour!
-
@mrony I would say it’s ok as well. But I have a non baro version, so others could validate your conserns better. For me same peak may be +/- 20m ( and it’s still ok in my opinion).
-
For me the last firmware is not getting better.
