S9B, bad new GPS version
-
@Oktan you are always famous if you wear a SUUNTO (and join our community)
-
@Łukasz-Szmigiel it can become bad if you don’t let it soak well. As it doesn’t have predictions. But if it has a clear view to the sky for a few time it should not be a problem. It should know all the data it needs for the next few hours.
Also your next start should be faster.
When new suunto models are tested (and that has been the case for s9/5) we testers never have agps. We test against the pure chip performance. We let the watch soak nearby the window or ie the balcony , for like 15mins , then we go run. It’s ok. 90% of the times. Agps gives the quick start, and a reassurance.

@stromdiddily after a restart, because there is no AGPS file provided by Sony…
-
Also Ray’s post on the issue: https://www.dcrainmaker.com/2021/01/gps-accuracy-impacting-devices.html
-
Agps FYI is back.
-
@Dimitrios-Kanellopoulos yes, this morning I noticed I’ve got the one for the 3rd of January.
-
-
I received the new AGPS information, had almost instant fix and a clean track.
Does this mean it’s solved or whas I just lucky today?
-
@surfboomerang looks like solved
-
For me between 27 December to 03 January, I’ve no issue with my S9 Baro, F6 pro solar and Vertix.

“looks like solved”
Is really solved the week 53 issue too? Is anybody working on GPS chipset FW update in Suunto to avoid similar problems at the end of this year (also has 53 weeks)? -
@apuka we dont write the FW Sony does for all brands. That is with all chips, else Suunto would know how to produce a Sony chip Its not like it’s opensource world here. Corps stuff and lotsa $$$
-
I am sorry, I meant something like “is anybody in Sony working on GPS FW update and provide it to Suunto for updating the affected watches”.
-
It’s a consumer-level GPS chip, not an Apollo guidance computer. It’s tested but as we’ve seen how well it performs after last firmware update (compared to previous version) - it’s being released after a certain quality and performance threshold is being reached, not when it’s military or space grade.
-
@apuka I am not sure if a FW update is needed or the fault was on the AGPS. As the AGPS caused the issue.
Nevertheless rest assured that this is investigated and if there is a FW update needed it will come.
-
If Sony decidede to release a new SW for their chip - how do watchs will get it? througth the watch update Suunto can overwrite Sony’s SW?
-
@Oktan The FW is a piece of code that is installed on the chip lets say. Like the BIOS on your motherboard (back when BIOS was there).
This piece of code is sent to Suunto/Garmin/Polar and it’s included in the watch update. The Watch FW has the Sony FW inside it and Suunto basically just says:
- Ok update the watch operating system
- Ok update the peripherial FWS (GPS/OHR) etc from the piece of code it got from the vendors (ie Sony, Vallencel, Qualcomm etC)
Sorry for the typos
-
@Dimitrios-Kanellopoulos it seems to work again with the A-GPS.
-
@Richard-Thygesen since the 3rd (yesterday ) should have been ok
