S9B, bad new GPS version
-
Restarted the watch and todays 43km ride was good from the GPS side.
-
@Dimitrios-Kanellopoulos yes rebooted my s9b yesterday with the upper button
-
Had problems with erroneous tracks for two days (even flagged on Strava). Now rebooted: Thank you @Dimitrios-Kanellopoulos and best wishes for a safe and successful 2021!
-
Same problems today, all day.
-
@Matjaz-Cvetko it is the problem on the Sony side, just put the watch outside and leave it there for some time on start screen…
-
@nseslija THX for tip.
HNY 2021

So I restarted my watch yesterday evening, got the 1/1/2021 AGPS file. Today I didn’t get the update, went for a short hike (made short by a storm coming in), got GPS signal in a couple of seconds. Because I was following a route it was clear there were issues still.
In red the track (from Runalyze), in black the real path. After this initial mess the track was pretty good, and I could follow the route pretty easily.
-
Maybe it’s not entirely the Sony chips fault as yesterday I got strange GPS reading too with an Ambit3, but not 100% sure as here it was overcast all day long. And today my altitude reading went crazy and showed higher value then two days before in the same place, with FusedAlti on in both cases.

@isazi
I just wanted to simulate this as one of my recent activities had a bad start but was to the spot accurate after a while.
Then I discovered the following: I did the soft reset. Then put the watch static (!) on our uncovered balcony after GPS lock and started an activity. I expected to see a wild curve on the breadcrumb screen… but instead:
duration: ~15min
distance: ~0.01km
ascent: 15m
descent: 3mmaybe this one is related: https://forum.suunto.com/topic/5682/suunto-9-gps-optimization-fail-wrong-altitude
-
Restarted the watch yesterday, no AGPS. Put the watch on the balcony for 30 min on pre-start screen. After that my ride was spot-on…
-
So long soak is the prescribed cure? Mine was 2020 funky this morning
-
I can confirm all of it.
Watch has AGPS of 01-01-2021, GPS optimizations are synced according to SA, but no new version.
Did a hike today and the start was horrible (quite a challenge if you try to follow a route) after a while it got better. Also received a storm alert because the barometer spiked from 1016 to 1032 back to 1016 in minutes. Don’t know if this relates to bad GPS altitude
-
Hi all agps won’t sync. Sony has an issue.
It’s all over the new for Garmin and suunto etc. (5k runner etc)
Just reboot the watch to not have agps and let it soak to get signal.
That’s my recommendation.
Monday official communication will come. Till then enjoy your holidays and don’t worry. These things happen. They are minor in life. Enjoy your family and be healthy and happy.

This.
GPS works without AGPS, only the time for first fix is longer but in my experience no big deal (under 1 min).

Yes!! i’m famous now
-
@Oktan you are always famous if you wear a SUUNTO (and join our community)
-
@Łukasz-Szmigiel it can become bad if you don’t let it soak well. As it doesn’t have predictions. But if it has a clear view to the sky for a few time it should not be a problem. It should know all the data it needs for the next few hours.
Also your next start should be faster.
When new suunto models are tested (and that has been the case for s9/5) we testers never have agps. We test against the pure chip performance. We let the watch soak nearby the window or ie the balcony , for like 15mins , then we go run. It’s ok. 90% of the times. Agps gives the quick start, and a reassurance.
-
@stromdiddily after a restart, because there is no AGPS file provided by Sony…

Agps FYI is back.
