S9B, bad new GPS version
-
Hi,
The left image is my 6km run from 30/10 in an open area, near a road.
There is a loop in the route that I repeated twice, and you can see the recording is spot on.The right image is the same run on the same route (minus about 100 m) I did today.
As you can see, its pretty worse GPS recording.- I charged the watch yesterday (SunntoLink performed the GPS optimization).
- I waited for a green signal before I started running.
- The GPS settings are: GPS + QZSS + Glonass
- The SW version is 2.13.18.
What do you say?
-
Not sure if it’s related, but a today from Strava at least 4 people I can think of have had pretty naff GPS data today on Garmin devices with Sony chipsets, so it might be a new year’s day AGPS thing?
-
@The_77
my watch did a nice recording during the day on the slopes. Maybe location related? (Switzerland) -
@Oktan There are many reports occurring, including in Garmin forums so not a Suunto issue, likely a Sony issue.
-
Yes, a terrible day, my strating point for my run was off by around 200-300 meters.
-
Same here today. I had a pretty good running track, but one part was waaaaay off. I never have seen this in my neighborhood.
-
New Years run. Fortunately I found back home without gps. Terrible tracking today
-
Glad I took the day off from activities
-
@isazi As a test, the old chipset in the Spartan Trainer did its usual good things today, so some of us were all good.
-
It’s everywhere. Garmin and suunto have this now.
All forums are full atm.

Can confirm I had a similar problem today (01.01) with GPS + GLONASS and S5.
The path recorded was way off for ~500 meters and 4:35 min (hiking). Apart from that it was as perfect as it can be in mountainous area for whole ~3 hours of recording.
I’ve marked an estimated route in green in the image below. Around 4:35 min from the beginning it catched up and was perfect till the end:

Example from Garmin groups. Looks like sony chips are affected. Join the conversation at facebook if you like here

Please all reboot the watch via 12 upper button(s) to wipe the cache.
Looks like sony had some cache issue.

@Dimitrios-Kanellopoulos
I double checked my activity. It is to the spot accurate, except for the first few meters where the track is anywhere fantasizing.Will do the 12s reboot

No idea if someone is interested, but I found this little clean app for GNSS information:
-
@surfboomerang
bookmarked -
@surfboomerang @TELE-HO Used it happily for a while now. If you can be bothered, you can play around with the AR view to check sky mask and decide which GNSS to blame for any inaccuracy you are experiencing at that specific moment. Very minor Japanese geo-bias: if you set up your current location manually, the default first “Europe” location is Vladivostok. Nerdy fun.

New year new run nr 2. Absolutely unacceptable gps today too. Blue line supposed to be the track. No update on the s9b and reset yesterday
-
Reset the watch, but now can’t update AGPS. Neither with SA nor SL…
