      Hello,
Is there any reason that SB9 sets the gps at maximum rate (performance) when I load a .gpx map?
I do trail running, as many Suunto customers. The Fusedtrack would be great for long trail runners, but on the fact useless as many for a race loads the .gpx map to help stay in track!
Last year the SB9 turned off during my UTMB as I didn’t know that. That wad very very disappointing.
      Suunto could you fix that?
      Thanks

@paolo_costantini so you mean gpx + fused track ?

@Dimitrios-Kanellopoulos I think the OP would like the navigation display to use FusedTrack’s interpolated locating* “live” on the navigation screen (in sports modes using Endurance/Ultra battery settings) rather than use Performance GNSS accuracy/drain. Presumably happy to trade (up to) 2 min accuracy lag for longer battery life. For “gpx” read “route”.

*Or possibly a choice of any something less hungry/accurate than Performance.

          EDITED for gun-jumping.

@Dimitrios-Kanellopoulos thanks, yes I was not clear.
If during a trail running activity I activate the navigation with a track (loading a .gpx as most of the people would do in a trail race) the GPS is set at best accuracy (1 sec, 25h max, no fused track). So it seems is not possible to use the good accuracy (gps every 60sec, 50hrs, fused track) navigating a track.
And this is a big gap preventing using at best the fused track feature of the SB9 in long trail run, considering that expectations of this watch are exactly for this ground field.

I guess it’s normal or at least expected as it’s stated in the manual too afair.

@sartoric I understand that’s stated in the manual. I am just wondering why.
Give the swatch is targeting endurance trail runners and Suunto developed this great feature of fused track, I am wondering why it’s limited to not using the track navigation, as many trail runners would use in a race instead.

Ok. A few info. First the good stuff. On the next update coming at some point there is a power optimization for this.

However, still when you ONLY are in the navigation screen, the gps switches to best.

When you switch back to another screen it switches to the fused track after 5mins.

                    To cut it short.

Next update already has quite some work to optimize this (ie not going to best mode on altitude screen). but still if you stay on the navigation screen the gps will be on best. Else it’s almost impossible to show you a correct location there.

Not to sidetrack but … may we now help the watch out by manual altitude calibration? Or would that one-(or two)-off interaction with the barometer and screen cause even more battery drain than BEST GNSS FusedAlti?

@Fenr1r no need. The fist 15 mins are calibrated to find the diff , then it always looks at the altitude and corrects that. If you have issues most probably you have a sensor issue. Cannot imagine a guy trying to get <10m error on altitude and constantly calibrating his altimeter during his 24+h run.

Fair enough, in that circumstance nor can I. Well, I can, but it’s a bit slapstick.

However, there are sports modes other than running. Hiking/trekking, for instance, where altitude is often a very useful navigation tool on a mapless, routepoint-navigation device when there are no paths, few distinctive features and a <10m error can mean the difference between one hilltop/ridge and another.

This would be really a great improvements to maximize the use of fused-track.

Fair enough if would set GPS in best mode in navigation screen when consulting, but then switching in the selected mode of the activity (endurance, ultra) when looking at other screens. And if this happens also for the altitude screen this is outstanding, as in races with high elevation profiles, it’s very useful keeping focused the altitude screen 🙂

                            Thanks

@Dimitrios-Kanellopoulos wow, it’s nice to see Suunto still investing in our S9!

Although I think these developments will also be useful for the successor of the 9 😄

That is correct, and since @Dimitrios-Kanellopoulos already stated this I can say it is working as stated. If you are on the Route screen or Altitude profile screen the watch will switch to best GPS, when on other screens the watch will switch back to FusedTrack.
