Climb grade % in sport mode
-
Hello, I am using Suunto 9 Baro, and the SuuntoPlus option CLIMB, shows in the screen the grade of the climb shown with % of the grade. This number is very interesting in cycling however I cannot find it in the long list when I configure my Sport Modes.
I don’t want to use SuuntoPlus Climb because it makes a lap at every climb and I want to do my own laps. However I do want to know the Grade of the climb that I am doing…
Am I missing something? Is that option in the list? How can I make the Grade appear in the normal screen for my sport modes.
Thanks. -
@tomasllorens I noticed that not every datafield is available for every sport mode.
Snowboarding for example has a grade datafield, but cycling does not. I have no idea why.
Maybe this is because cycling uphill would be too slow to give accurate measurements, but that is just a wild guess. -
Yes, now I see it in the “Downhill” section, right? “Current downhill average grade” and “Total steepest downhill grade”.
I think it is possible in terms of measurement, as cycling computers show live grade, also I had it in my Ambit 2 and it is possible with the SuuntoPlus-Climb option.
Thanks for your comment anyway! -
Well, you are right, grade is not there as customizable data field. It would be nice to have it there, unfortunately, it isn’t. However, have you tried vertical speed data field? I am using it for all my cycling/running/trailrunning/hiking/mountaineering sport modes, and honestly, I think that it gives me much better info about actual effort I am spending on climbing. grade is just description, how steep the hill is. Vertical speed, can tell you how you are doing on that hill

@tomasllorens you are not missing anything.
The whole concept of SuuntoPlus is to deliver features that are not part of the standard firmware.
To be precise not only to generally enable it, but also to be able to deliver it quicker. -
Thanks for your comments to you all. I think it is an important number which would be nice to have as a “selectable” for a sport mode. It’s the typical number that the profile for road cycling cols tells you, so it’s nice when you are in a climb to know if you are in the “harder” section of the col, or the “softer” section. Having it in SuuntoPlus it’s not interesting for me, as when I activate SuuntoPlus it will make a lap at every uphill, which is something I don’t want.
Just as a suggestion, is would be nice to have “Grade” in the long list we have for each sport mode!
Thanks!
