So, what are you going to do after Movescount closes?

I have tried using a stick, axe, explosives just won’t die lol…PERFECT WATCH.
We are waiting for your YouTube series in which you try to kill wild Ambits.
-
@sebchastang As far as I understand (I may be wrong) it’s not “removing Mini Apps” it’s rather “Saving data generated by Mini Apps is not supported by Suunto App”.

I believe the Traverse has a Sport Mode for that.

@Kuba-Sarata For a lot of functions (possibly only the ones that couldn’t also be changed on the watch) you do need a computer with MC App: it’s the server at the other end of the data connection you also require for that set-up change. SA does more settings changes to the watch “independently” in that sense.
MC app you could do far more on the ambits SA you can do nothing
-
@Fenr1r You’re right but not with the Ambits

I still have my ambit peak somewhere…this seems like a plan lol

@Kuba-Sarata @lohtse So long as you have a data connection. If not, you can actually do at least one more thing with an A3 and SA than with MC. You’re screwed on setup, routes, etc., with either app but (as I understand it) you can effectively offload Moves to SA. On a long, multi-day trek, that might save your records before the A3 starts overwriting them for lack of memory space.

Yes, you are correct. It is more about saving those data. But I understand that at the end of this month, only watch profile feature and route management would be possible through movescount.com. (link to “Suunto app zone” would be removed, just like other sections on the website). That is why I talk about loosing mini apps and loosing associated logs.
-
@sebchastang as I said it’s not clear to me if “Suunto app zone” (http://www.movescount.com/apps) to be shutdown. Generated data is not supported by Suunto App, for sure - but Apps Directory - not clear.

Better not shut it down… I use mini apps far too much…
At least two of my sports modes are purely based around mini apps and the data they collect… And the rest will have one or two if not more mini apps in them…
-
@lohtse would be interesting to know what apps and sportmodes, how you use them. But better as separate topic.
-
@pavel-samokha thank you for your information. Do you think “Suunto app” will support the generated data in the future ? Do you agree it is a loss and it is legitimate to ask for synchronizing and viewing those data in Suunto app ?

I switched to Suunto originally because I liked Movescount so much. I couldn’t stand Suunto App so discontinuing of Movescount was a factor into my decision to move to another brand. And several Suunto owners that I talked to are going to do the same.
I can’t quite pinpoint what makes SuuntoApp so annoying to me - that probably requires a separate post on its own - but I can’t stand it.
-
@sky-runner I, too, based my decision to buy a Spartan on the ability to use Movescount. Literally two months later, Suunto announced their plans to scrap the platform.
I’m still not happy with that and I’m still not impressed with the way the company is treating its oldest, and by extension, most loyal users who own Ambit devices, so that 30% discount for a new Suunto watch cuts no ice with me whatsoever. A few weeks ago I bought a Coros Vertix and so far I couldn’t be happier with it. Can’t see myself returning to Suunto in the foreseeable future.
-
@RiphRaph More or less the same here. To me that platform was very important and discovering that key features were going away really disgusted me. I changed watch last Christmas but I still keep my SSWHRBaro (my 7 year old son has been using it lately).
To me the 30% discount is disrespectful given that you can most times find Suunto watches cheaper elsewhere, it cannot be used for Christmas and I see it as an implicit admission of guilt towards older watch models, some owned by long time Suunto advocates. But that’s my personal view and others may not share it.
