Maps on Suunto 7 but not Suunto 9?
-
Why maps on Suunto 7, not Suunto 9, when the 9 is the ‘flagship’ premium product?
-
Hi, the S7 is from what I see Suunto’s first Wear OS watch and was released after the S9. So features of the S7 might come maybe also later to an S9 upgrade or successor, who knows.
From my own assessment (thought for one moment I would buy the S7) I however believe that both watches target different users and uses. Just to highlight two examples, the S9 is 100M waterproof vs 50M on the S7, and the S9 battery lasts much longer in GPS mode (up to 120h depending on battery setting) than the S7.
To me, the S9 - especially in the baro version - is much more a robust outdoor watch than the S7 is. And that is why I bought my S9baro. I key in waypoints on the S9 and use a separate device with a real screen for maps, should I need that.

@grantdoug it’s different models targeting different users. Not just a simple “higher number has all of the other models plus more”.
S9 is made for the adventure and ultra runner crowd. Thus it’s focusing on battery management. The built in processor, memory and OS don’t support maps. -
Ey I’m closing this to avoid duplicates. The maps in the suunto 9 had been and are being discussed in the wishlist of the s9 and future upgrades.
Thanks @MartinLX and @Egika for the answers.
