@Prenj
well … suuntolink for ambits doesn’t look as “nothing”could something more be done ? sure
LOL. OK, let’s pretend we really got something we didn’t already have

@Prenj I meant in general. We used to have lots of beta versions of the app until covid.
I get that and that’s good. I’m just frustrated because of really unfair treatment of A3P by suunto.

Exactly.
I think that to implement the basic control functions that was in the movescount app in the SA, before discontinuing it sould have been the minimum done.
there are too much holes in this process… I’m sorry -

After reading all posts, I’m still confused: do you think we’ll ever see route planning/uploading and sport mode editing in the Suunto App for Ambit 3 Series?! Can’t be that of a problem??!?!

You quoted me, but not with the whole content. this part of “confusion” is not from me.
Here is the complete thread

And to answer you question : no idea about suunto plans about A3 and SA.
-
@tomhaegler To be honest, I don’t believe there will be new functionalities in Suunto app for A3P ever. We’d be fools to believe otherwise after year and a half of zero lines of code added for A3P in Suunto app. I’m not happy about it, but that’s what it is. Well competition still thinks that there is a demand for watches that offer what A3P once offered (hint: Garmin Instinct Solar).
-
@Prenj so you have access to SA source code? Comments and opinions are one thing, saying that you know what is in the code is a lie.

While I’d use a different wording (like: “no ambit-related user-visible changes since end of 2018”), I don’t believe @Prenj is too far from truth here. Besides, SA APK is pretty much like an open book with few scribbled pages here and there, meaning that there’s no issues listing what’s in there, though its tricky to point out what’s certainly not there.

Yeah I might be wrong, there really might be a bunch of stuff done for A3P under the hood. Sorry for assuming that after 19 months of nothing visible for A3P there. No ability to adjust watch settings, adding routes, poi-s, syncing with movescount… But you are 100% right. I stand corrected. There really might be something there in the code we are not aware of. It’s OK to believe that.

@Prenj …then my next question would be: would it be possible to develop an own app that could add routes and change sport modes? e.g. I use an aftermarket, user developed firmware on my canon 550d which adds a ton of features
-
Afaik atm there won’t be any support for Bluetooth sync of settings / routes with the SUUNTO app for A3 etc.
There will be a new website and that will sync only with cable and will be enabled only for A3 etc.
I am writting this in order to not raise hopes
If you read the announcements that is also said there. A3 etc will sync only via cable.

Unfortunately Suunto is reluctant to release the necessary protocols to developers outside their company. Guys at OpenAmbit succeeded in developing opensource alternative for moveslink, but they hit the wall for changing settings without movescount web. So I don’t expect there will be anything new.

Thanks for clarifying this at last Dimitrios. Bad news, but at least clear enough.

at least we know. Settings by cable is disappointing but not the end. At least I can change settings - I don’t do it often. But still…so this means: the movescount website will be shut down - when exactly? because route planning / gpx import will disappear as well then…
-
Movescount web is not exactly going away. They said it’s only going to lose analysis part and eventually change it’s name. You will still be able to use it to change settings and upload routes and POI-s. For how long… Well who knows.
For me, losing bluetooth sync for settings and routes is a deal breaker. I often change routes and settings while outside and I’m certainly not going to carry my laptop with me just to do this. Looking for alternatives right now… I gladly supported Suunto for being European company and for built quality they are offering with their lineup but since Anta acquired them, things are going in direction I don’t like anymore. Oh well…

Well yes and no. They did announce the cable sync and new movescount web but I don’t think they ever explicitly said Suunto app will not support sync of settings and routes with bluetooth ever. Dimitrios was finally very clear about this. Unfortunatelly they are still selling Ambit3 with “wireless watch customization” in specs in official Suunto website which is pretty lame if you ask me. They are deceiving buyers.

fair point. Using a special browser, I was once able to load the desktop site of movescount on my iphone. That made it possible to upload a gpx file I created using an other app. then sync wireless - and the track was on my watch. very convenient to do this while on the trail!! haha, maybe someone will come up with a cable sync app for mobile phones - then we could at least bring the cable and hook it up to the phone
